Matilda “Millie” Rosato

   Matilda A. “Millie” Rosato (nee Morelli), 92, of Closter, passed away at home on Saturday, December 31, 2011.  She was born June 27, 1919.  Millie moved to Cresskill with her husband, Daniel, of 67 years, and her three sons before settling in Closter.  She is survived by Frank and his wife Pat, Joseph and his wife Sandy and Daniel and his wife Patrice.  Adored grandmother of Steven, Nicole, Joseph, Jacqueline and Alicia Mary and great-grandmother of Derrick and Gabriella.  Dearest sister of Jerry Morelli and the late Rebecca, Rose and Josephine.  Loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

   Besides being a wonderful homemaker, Millie enjoyed crocheting and donating her work to various charities.

David M. Wires

   David M. Wires , 53, of Hackensack, formerly of Old Tappan, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.  Beloved son of Joan (nee Porter) Wires of Boynton Beach, FL and the late William S. Wires.  Devoted brother of William J. Wires and his wife Ylva of Berlin, Germany, Carolyn Lalonde and her husband Mark of Delray Beach, FL, and the late Paul Wires.  Also survived by loving nieces and nephews.  David lived a simple life and was loved by his family and friends.  He will be missed by all who knew him.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Anthony R. Maria M. Flynn

   Maria M. Flynn (nee Bauer), 84, of Norwood for over 50 years, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011.  Beloved wife of the late Andrew.  Devoted mother of Janet Sokoly and her husband Wayne of Park Ridge and Paul Flynn and his wife Rita of Norwood.  Adored grandmother of Christopher, Scott, Morgan, Katie and Andrew.  She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

   Maria worked for Glenwood Labs in Tenafly for many years before retiring and becoming a caretaker. She was an avid gardner and will be remembered for all the baked goods she loved to make.

Mary J. Armstrong

   Mary Josephine Armstrong (nee Grassano), 64 entered peacefully into Heaven on December 17, 2011. Mary was born to Rocco Grassano and Julia McKeon Grassano, on July 31, 1947 in Belleek,County Fermanagh,Northern Ireland. She was raised inPaterson,New Jerseywhere she attended St. Theresa’s Elementary School andBenedictineAcademy. Mary then attendedCaldwellCollegefor Women (’65), where she double majored in History and Education. She went on to earn her Masters Degree inReadingatSetonHallUniversity.         

Mary began her teaching career at St. Catherine’s in Glen Rock before her long teaching career in the New Milford Public Schools. Mary taught numerous grade levels and subject areas before retiring in 2005.

 On July 19, 1975, Mary married Clarence Armstrong atHolyTrinityChurch. The couple resided inHackensackbefore moving to Northvale in 1978. Once settled in their new home Mary began her most important job in the world…Mom to Kara and Keith. Mary was an active participant in numerous organizations. She had an extraordinary large number of friends.

Mary was a role model for all who knew her. Her tremendous faith in God was evident in all aspect of her life. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother andSt.Theresa, The Little Flower. Mary attended mass at St. Anthony’s Parish and participated in the Women’s Cornerstone. Her daily routine began with praying the Rosary. Her faith stayed with her until the end of her life.

            Mary is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Clarence; her children, Kara and Keith; her father Rocco and siblings, Rocco, Lillian and Anthony. She was a beloved sister-in-law and devoted aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.      

Visitation will take place, Wednesday, December 21 from 7-9PM, Thursday, December 22 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Anthony R. Robert J. DeSocio

  Robert J. DeSocio, 77, a longtime Norwood resident, died on Friday, December 16, 2011.  Beloved husband of Ann (nee Morris) for 56 years.  Devoted father of Robert, Jr., and his wife, Laurie of Warren Township, NJ, Richard and his wife Melissa of Palmerton, PA, Michael of Knoxville, TN, and Jeanine and her husband John Dixson of Dallas, TX.  Dearest grandfather of Joseph, Matthew and Julia and Eli and Nika.  Dear brother of Dorothy and her husband Richard Davis, and the late Herbert.  Also survived by his nephew John Davis.   Mr. DeSocio was a printer for the Printer’s Union #6, NY, NY.  He served in the US Navy Reserve during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Norwood  Senior Citizens.  A funeral service will be on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Anthony R. Carmine Picariello

   Carmine Picariello, 72, of Tappan, died at home on Friday, December 9, 2011. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Bevolo). Devoted father of Diane and her husband William of Orangeburg and Ronald and his wife Mary of Little Falls, NJ.  Loving grandfather of Kristina, Kimberly, Ava, Olivia, Vincent, and James. Dearest brother of Andrew and his wife Lucy of Garnerville and the late Dottie Agosta of the Bronx. Also survived by his loving in-laws, Margie and Nicky Maccharulo and  Carol and Matty Alongi and many loving nieces and nephews.

    Before retiring Mr. Picariello was a materials supervisor for the Port  Authority of NY. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan and a member of the Order Sons of Italy, Rockland Lodge 2176 in Blauvelt. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Lisa Marie Lillien

   Lisa Marie Lillien, 39, of River Vale, on Wednesday, December 7, 2011.  Cherished daughter of Fay and Sal Pecoraro of River Vale.  Loving sister of Sheila Fischer and her husband Kevin of Norwood.  Adored aunt and godmother of Lily Ann.  Beloved niece of Luann and John Turco and cousin of Anthony and Amanda.

Victorio Velasquez Torres

   Victorio Velasquez Torres, 69, of Northvale, passed away on Wednesday, December 07, 2011.  Beloved husband of Juliana.  Loving father of Juliette Anderson and her husband David and Vanessa  Torres and her husband John Tedrick Delos Reyes.  Adoring  grandfather of Dylan, Jordan and Tristan.  Also survived by a brother, Juanito and his wife, Dely Torres and two sisters, Rufina Dela Cruz and Jacinta and Ray Carlos.  He is predeceased by three brothers, Ricardo,  Delfin and Faustino.

   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 AM at St. Pius X RC Church, Old Tappan with entombment to follow at St. Anthony’s Mausoleum, Nanuet, NY.  Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale.

Evelyn Mazzie

   Evelyn Eleanor Haag  Mazzie, born January 9th  1915 passed away on Sunday December 4th, 2011. Evelyn had been residing in Bennington Vermont at the time of her death. At 96 years of age, Evelyn left this world of natural causes.

    Evelyn was born to Harry H. and Ida Florence  Haag in New York City,New York. Harry Haag was a firefighter for New York City and raised Evelyn at their residence on Fifth Avenue in New York City.  Evelyn was schooled in New York City and went on to be employed as a customer service representative at Sears Roebuck Co.  She met and married JosephCharles Mazzie in 1932 in North Bergen N.J.. Joseph and Evelyn resided in Freehold N.J.  Evelyn moved to Bennington Vermont in 2007 .

    Well known for her quick humorous wit , Evelyn was never shy about sharing her thoughts with others. She was loved by all and everyone anxiously waited to hear her next words of guidance and direction. A loving mother grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and friend to many she will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.

   She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Charles Mazzie, brother Lewis Haag, son Joseph Charles Mazzie , and grandson Joseph John Mazzie.      

   Evelyn is survived by her son Gary Mazzie and his wife Jane of Arlington VT., her son Bruce Mazzie and his wife Deborah of Monrovia Maryland;   her nine grandchildren Susan, Nancy, Gary, Jane, Michael, Thomas, Jeffrey, Todd, and Jennifer; her seventeen great grandchildren; and one great grandchild.    

   Visitation will be held for family and friends at Pizzi Funeral Home Northvale N.J. from 7:00 to 9:00 pm Wednesday October 7th. A Funeral Mass will be held at St.Anthony’s Church in Northvale N.J. at 9:30 AM Thursday December 8th, immediately followed by a burial service at Maryrest Cemetery in Darlington, Mahwah,  N.J.

Peter F. Tantillo

   Peter F. Tantillo, 89, of Tappan, NY, passed away at home, on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.  Beloved husband of the late Filomena.  Loving father of Frank of Austin, TX, Phyllis of Jupiter, FL and JoAnn Jaworski and her husband Tom of River Vale.  Cherished grandfather of Melissa, Amanda, Nicole and Christina and great-grandfather of Alexa, Vinny and Gino.  Dear brother of the late Vincent and Dominick.

   Mr. Tantillo was US Army veteran of WWII.  Serving in the Pacific, he was a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division and received the Bronze Star.  Peter was an electrician with Local 3 in New York City and remained active with the group after retiring.  He was a member of the American Legion John Secor Post 329 in Pearl River, the Orangetown Senior Center and was head usher at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church in Tappan for 25 years.

   Peter especially enjoyed studying opera and travelling the world with his wife Filomena.
