Jean P. Henthorn

Jean P. Henthorn (nee Passero), 54, of Tappan, passed away on Sunday, March29, 2015. Beloved wife of Duane B. Henthorn.  Loving mother of Jillian and Elaina. Cherished daughter of Anthony Passero and the late Rachel of New City. Adored sister of Anna Spearman and husband James of Nyack and Antonina Fiasconaro and husband Frank of Harrison.

Jean was a teacher at Our Lady of Mercy School in Park Ridge for the past 10 years.  Prior to that she taught in Brooklyn and Bronx for the NYC Board of Education. She loved her family and enjoyed being outdoors. She will be dearly missed.

Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale.  A Funeral Service will be held Thursday 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Tappan, NY.

Joseph Straka

Joseph Straka, 89, of Walden, died on Monday, March 23, 2015.  Beloved husband of the late Antoinette Straka.  Loving father of Terry Ann Ward of Ipswich, MA and Joanne Straka of Middletown, NY.  Cherished grandfather of Joseph and Heather Sepkowski, Sam Ward and great-grandfather of Marisa Perez.

Joe was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.   He retired from Rockland State psychiatric power plant as head engineer.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 12 noon at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church in Tappan with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill.  Arrangements by Pizzi Funeral Home, Northvale.

Edward “Eppy” Kopf

Edward “Eppy” George Kopf, Sr., 94, of Sparkill, NY, passed peacefully Monday, March 23rd, 2015 surrounded by his family. Predeceased by beloved wife, Minna, dear brothers, Otto and Henry. Treasured father of Edward (Jo Anne) Kopf, Jr. and Nancy (Ralph) Wehmann. Adored by granddaughters, Stephanie and Kathleen along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He led a life rich in public service. A carpenter, he helped construct Camp Edwards Army Base in Massachusetts. Served in the Coast Guard prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in WWII rising to rank of Sergeant, U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division, 39th regiment, I company. Saw action in Africa, Sicily and Italy before participating in Normandy invasion “D-Day + 4.”  Seriously wounded near Falaise on August 6th, his acts of bravery earned him the Distinguished Service Cross and Purple Heart. Among his numerous medals he was proudest of his Combat Infantry Badge.  Post war joined parents, “Mom” and “Pop” Kopf and brother, Otto running the Mountain House Restaurant. Lifelong member of John Paulding Engine Company #1. Life member of American Legion John M. Perry Post #1044, past NY State Legionnaire of the Year, member of the Piermont VFW and Stony Point Wawayanda Masonic Lodge. Founding member of the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps. In later years “adopted” by the Northvale Fire Dept. Softball Team cheering them on at all their games. His family is very grateful to the members of these organizations and others for their steadfast demonstration of respect and support. Ever a hard worker, Eppy will be remembered for his loving nature, storytelling, wonderful singing voice, love of the Yankees, delightful sense of humor (including pranks and practical jokes!), and especially his strength of character, positive outlook and determination in the face of adversity. His genuine goodness and kind soul were evident to all who had the privilege to know him. He will be missed but leaves behind a wealth of golden memories.  A funeral service will be held Friday 10 AM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery.  Visitation is Thursday 4-8 PM.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Military Order of the Purple Heart, www.purpleheart.org or the John M. Perry Post.

James W. Flynn

James. W. Flynn, age 89, of Old Tappan and Oak Ridge, NJ passed away on March 19, 2015.  James was born on February 4, 1926 in Miners Mills, Pa and was raised in Paterson, NJ.  James was the son of the late James A. and Nellie Flynn.  James was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Paterson, NJ and was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the Merchant Marine and Coast Guard with honor.  He spent his career as an independent process and controls engineer designing and installing complex electronic control systems worldwide.  James was married to Virginia. M. (Hinchen) Flynn for 59 years who preceeded him in death in 2008.  James was the father of 6 sons, James M. Flynn and his wife, Roseline, of River Vale, Robert D. Flynn and his wife, Analuk, of Syracuse, Utah, John J. Flynn and his wife, Penny, of Lodi, Paul A. Flynn and his wife, Suzette, of West Suffield, Conn., and Michael T. Flynn and his wife, Barbara, of Gillette; and Mark D. Flynn who passed away in 2013, three daughters, Patricia M. Lyons; of Sussex, Suzanne M. McGregor and her husband, Cameron, of Hamburg; and Constance M. Kwas and her husband, Daniel, of Wauwatosa, Wis.; he was the loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, NJ  from 2-4 and 7-9.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 23, 2015.  Burial will follow at St. Thomas the Apostle in Oak Ridge, NJ.

Angelo P. Pizzi

Angelo P. Pizzi, 94, of Rochelle Park passed away on March 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.  Beloved husband of 71 years of the former Rosalie Luggiero.  Devoted father of Anthony and his wife Joyce of Northvale. Linda Gaita and her husband Carmen of Little Falls and Joni Macchia and her husband George of Wyckoff.  Cherished grandfather of Gregg Pizzi, Michael Pizzi and his wife Pamela, Robert Pizzi and his wife Michelle, Lauren Gaita Klaus and her husband Thomas, Steven Gaita and Kevin Macchia.  Adored great grandfather of Jessica, Anthony, Tyler and Jaclyn.  Dear brother of John, Angela Herina and Terry Quatrone.

Born in Garfield, he lived in Lodi and Maywood before residing in Rochelle Park for the past twenty five years.  Before his retirement, he was the proprietor of Castle Lanes, West New York and later, Daniels Hardware, Cliffside Park.  He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Navy and was a member of Lodi VFW. Angelo was a parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Rochelle Park.

Funeral Friday 9:00 AM from Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave., Northvale.  Mass of Christian Burial Sacred Heart Church, Rochelle Park at 10:30 AM.  Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook.  The family will receive their family and friends Thursday 4 to 8 PM.

Samuel S. Napolitano

Samuel S. Napolitano, 84, of Norwood, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015.  Beloved husband of the late Wanda (nee Wisneski). Loving father of Allan and his wife LuAnne of Harrington Park. Adored grandfather of Allan, Michael, James and Anthony. Dear brother of Margaret DellaTorre, Antoinette Ottino and Joseph Napolitano and the late Mary Grande, Rose Becker and Theresa Timpone. His parents were the late Joseph Napolitano and Antoinette

He started out as a 2nd generation peddler working for his father before he started his own wholesale produce company Samuel S. Napolitano Produce Inc. based in Englewood, New Jersey. He also distributed seasonal wine grapes and NJ plum tomatoes. He later started Fresh Horizen which he worked at until his stroke in December 2007. He attended St. Cecilia High School and graduated in 1947.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 10 am at Our Lady of Victories RC Church, Harrington Park with entombment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hackensack. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8pm at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (201-767-3050)

Edwin Frohlich

Edwin Frohlich, 83, of Northvale, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 5, 2015.  Loving husband of Janet (nee Prodigo).  Devoted father and father-in-law of Deborah and Camilo DiRese of Norwood, Michael and Patricia of Woodcliff Lake, Patricia Palmer of Dingmans Ferry, PA, Allan of Northvale, Jeffrey and Diane of Northvale and Edwin Jr. and Tracey of Howell.  Cherished grandfather of Jason, Michael, Danielle, Justin, Jared, Rachel, Zachary, Tanner, Theresa and Parker and great-grandfather of nine.  Dear brother of Florence, Joseph, Dorothy, Jean, George and the late Walter, Theresa and Louis.

Ed was a US Navy veteran.  He belonged to the Northvale American Legion Post 366 and the Knights of Columbus Council 3679 in Closter.  He retired from the Garden State Parkway Authority as an electrician after 40 years of service.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkil, NY.  Visiting hours are Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (201-767-3050).
