Chester J. Kaniecki, Sr.

Chester J. Kaniecki, Sr., 83, of Northvale for over 50 years, born and raised in Brooklyn, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Beloved husband of Paulette (nee Bryda). Cherished father of Deborah of Northvale, Stephanie Buldo and husband Christopher of River Vale and Chester Jr. and wife Michelle of Groton, CT. Adored grandfather of Melissa, Samantha and Taylor. Dear brother of the late Thaddeus and Zygmunt.

Chet was a friend to everyone he met and a source of strength for his family and for all that knew him. As many of you know, he faced many battles with his health and never gave up. He always considered himself to be blessed with his many friends and family. He was a proud member of the 40th Street boys from Brooklyn and his three amazing granddaughters were his pride and joy. Chet was a proud US Army veteran of the Korean War and was past commander of the Northvale VFW, member of the Norwood American Legion and the Closter Elks.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery, Tappan, NY. Visiting hours are Sunday 2-6 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Theodore J. Bleckman

Theodore J. Bleckman, 78, of Norwood, formerly of Dumont, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Carol. Loving father of Ted and his girlfriend Kay of LaJolla, CA and Sandra of Norwood. Dearest brother of Barbara, Donald, Dorothy, Edith, Kathryn, Lloyd, Lois and Virginia and the late Arthur, Carol, Peggy and Robert. He was also a beloved uncle, brother-in-law and friend. Also survived by his beloved dog Tedi.

Ted was a US Army Veteran. He was a sales manager for Tri-State Computer Flooring in Cliffside Park. After retiring he enjoyed working at the Bergen County Golf Course in Rockleigh as a starter and a ranger.

The family will gather at St. Anthony’s Shrine, 36 West Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY at 9:30 AM on Wednesday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM with interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Arthur A. Bodrato “Artie”

Arthur A. Bodrato, “Artie”, 93, of Northvale, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Devoted husband Waldine for 66 years. Cherished father of Briant and his wife Kathleen of Northvale. Adored grandfather of Ashley and Christopher. Dearest brother of the late Elmo, Frederick and Joseph.

Artie was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He was a retired plumber and was a member of Plumbers Local 24 and was always there to lend a hand to a friend in need. He was a life member of the Northvale Volunteer Fire Association and served for 72 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He served the association as financial secretary for many years and was past president of the exempt association. Artie was also a member of the American Legion Joseph Silva Post 366. Artie was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale.

Mary T. Galasso (nee Petruzzi), 99, of River Vale, formerly of Fair Lawn and Brooklyn, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 29, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Louis C. Galasso. Devoted mother of three sons; Vincent L. and wife Cilia of River Vale, Carmine L. and partner Nina Berman of NYC and Louis C. and wife Maria of Parsippany. Proud grandmother of Valerie, Joseph, Christine, Anthony, Natalie and Carla and great-grandmother of Julia, Nevin and Audrey. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

Mary was a devoted member of the Society of the Little Flower and was a parishioner of St. Pius X RC Church, Old Tappan.

Cecil Patrick Doran

Cecil Patrick Doran, aged 93, passed away on March 26, 2019. He resided in Vero Beach, Florida after he retired. He was born in Dublin, Ireland to Violet (Noble) and Thomas Doran. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. Richmond, a light cruiser, during the Aleutian Islands campaign. Following his active service, he remained in the Navy Reserves for 31 years, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Fourth Class (CWO4). He was part of the first wave of World War II veterans to attend Hunter College (CCNY). Upon graduation with a degree in English, he was employed by the American Automobile Association (AAA). He went on to become corporate travel manager at J.C. Penney and Thomas J. Lipton corporate offices. He was a founding member and President of the National Passenger Traffic Association (NPTA).

During his retirement he was active with the Northvale V.F.W. and, after moving to Vero Beach, was involved with the Navy League. He was predeceased by his first wife Lydia Krause Doran, his brother William Doran and wife Eileen, and his beloved daughter Patricia Doran Malone and son-in-law Richard Malone. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Pauline Binetti Doran. Loving father of Thomas and wife Rachela, Iris Iozzia and husband Robert, and Roger and wife Karen. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Allison, Erica, and Brian. Dear brother-in-law of Daniel Binetti and wife Christine. Cecil is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Cecil enjoyed the traveling he did with Pauline. They visited many parts of the U.S. and Europe as well. Cecil possessed a keen Irish sense of humor and was well-liked by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Joanna U. Smith (nee Weaver), 88, of Washington Twp., NJ, formerly of Old Tappan, NJ, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Fred. Deborah Ann Yavorski

Deborah Ann Yavorski, 63, of Lodi, passed away at  on Thursday, March 21, 2019.  She was the loving mother of Amanda Yavorski and her boyfriend Matt of Saddle Brook.  Proud “Mimi” of Aubrey and MJ. Cherished sister of Diane Abbatemarco and husband James, Patricia Massimo and fiancé Allan Russo, Edward Yavorski and fiancé Kathy Hawthorne, Laurie McHargue and husband Terry and Tracey Yavorski-Norfolk and fiancé Tom Mitchel, devoted Aunt to Jessica, Siobhan, Meghan, Nicholas, Jenna, and Victoria. Deborah was predeceased by her longtime boyfriend Thomas Mansfield.  

Deborah grew up in River Vale and was a graduate of Pascack Valley High School in 1973.  She was working for Delicacies Cuisine and Gourmet Catering in Saddle Brook for many years.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.  She loved to cook and feed her family, known for her delicious coquito at Christmas time and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.  She will be terribly missed.

Matthew George Velis, 33, of Woodside, NY, formerly of Northvale, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019. Beloved son of George and Catherine of Northvale. Loving brother of Andrew and wife Melissa of Woodside and Christopher and wife Gabrielle of Harrington Park. Cherished grandson of Maria Velis and Rita Cherevas, he was predeceased by his grandfathers, Andreas Velis and Christopher Cherevas. Adored uncle of Ava, Dylan and Amelia. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Rebecca Mandel, as well as many loving aunts, uncles and dear cousins.

Matt was a free spirit. Larger than life, he loved motorcycles and was a member of the RPM Motorcycle Club, enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, music festivals and skiing and snowboarding.
