Richard A. Ihrig

Richard A. Ihrig, born April 28, 1962, of Hampton, New Hampshire, formerly of Northvale, New Jersey, entered into eternal rest on December 9, 2020.  Rich leaves behind a son Andrew, 3 sisters, Sharon, Lorna and Charlene and brothers-in law Peter and Tom.  He was an uncle to 5 nephews; Matthew, Michael, Brian, Alexander and Kevin.  He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Charlotte Ihrig.

Rich was born in Hempstead, New York and was the second of four children.  Rich was an Eagle Scout and President of his high school senior class.  Rich married his high school sweetheart, with whom he had one child, Andrew Ihrig Lanier.  Rich had a passion for adventure and travel and in his twenties moved to Florida to pursue a career in the travel industry.  Several years later, Rich relocated to South Carolina where he built his dream home and pursued his passion for raising horses.  Rich was an animal lover and along with his 3 horses, he had 2 dogs.  Rich eventually found his way to New Hampshire where as a child spent most summers at the beach.

Rich was a great cook, loved to fish, watch baseball, fly kites and spend time at the beach where he enjoyed watching sunsets.  Rich enjoyed working with his hands and earned a living as a tile setter and also had a business of flipping homes.  His creativity with his tile work and designs was a direct reflection of his personality, which was truly unique and magnetic.

Rich ended every phone call with, “Love You” and will be something that will always be remembered by his family.

  2. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Ihrig- I haven’t seen Rich in a very long time but have so many wonderful memories of great times with him and especially Christmas Eve at your home where you always welcomed all his friends. Rich was a man capable of deep love, I was lucky to have him love me. We were childhood friends that reconnected in later life. We were together since 2011 and married in 2016. We shared an ocean home and a business together, Rich was a gifted artisan. His tile work in our home and the many others that we renovated together will live on as a lasting memory of his passion for his trade. I will miss Rich, my loving husband, endlessly as will the many many friends we shared in Hampton.

    Dear friends and family.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Rich for the last ten years that he has spent with the love his life Rosemary. The summary of his life has not included the most recent and wonderful part. Rich was a dedicated husband and step dad to her 3 children Justin, Shea and Kate whom he was so extremely proud of. Anyone who knew Rich these last years knew how extremely happy he was to have reconnected with his
childhood friend and end up marrying her. My friendship with Rich will remain in my heart for eternity.
Rich was an exceptional artist. His talents were demonstrated in his tile and carpentry work that captured His love for the ocean. He was a compassionate man who cared deeply for the elderly and humankind ,always going out of his way to say a kind word to a complete stranger. He loved cooking and had become quite a culinary expert. He enjoyed boating, hitting the beach, traveling to Mexico and had hoped to visit the French Riviera In the fall.
He will be sadly missed by his friends and family in the Seacoast area New Hampshire where he has resided for the last 10 years .

I was so sorry to hear of my good friend Rich’s passing. I have known Rich for several years in Hampton NH as he was my best friend Rosemary’s husband. He loved to have a good time enjoying concerts, flying kites on Seabrook Beach, making a wonderful dinner for friends, but mostly he loved spending time with Rosemary. Whether they were working on home renovations or hanging out on the boat, he was happiest when she was by his side. Rich had a huge heart and a hearty laugh and smile for all who crossed his path. I will miss his friendship dearly.

  6. Rich was a good guy, and I’m so sad that he is gone.  I’m sad that he is not here, to smile, to hang out with his family, to enjoy the new home he and Rosemary just finished, to enjoy life.  I’ve only known him a few years but enjoyed this short time… you were my friend on day 1.  Thank you Rich.

  7. See you in Heaven Love you

  9. Rich…. What can I say you were so many things to me. You were my stepfather, confidant, ally, mentor but most importantly you were my friend. You were always there to help me and answer my questions, always reassuring me there are no stupid questions. I will miss our talks about life, throwing the football on the beach, body surfing in the waves, flying kites, you trying to teach me how to cook, teaching me to use power tools and building a boardwalk together, and our guy nights when we would go to Wally’s for dinner, drinks… you rum & coke me margarita, and playing a few games of pool. It was so fun. We all will miss you Rich, thanks for being my stepdad, loving me, your great hugs, and always being there for me. You left us way too soon.

Rich……………it is with sadness that I heard you left this earth too soon. I am happy to know where you are though…….at peace and in Heaven. I will always treasure the letters and cards you sent us in 1998 assuring us of this. You were a talented man and hard worker. I enjoyed our talks about construction, loved your cooking, and appreciate the times you took my son Joe on trips to the ocean and showed him a good time when he was growing up. We will meet again. Rest in Peace……

I met Rich over 40+ years ago when he, Rosemary, and I were just young teenagers in Seabrook. Rosemary and I are cousins and spent most of our summers together in Nashua or the beach house. He was known as Richie back then. And believe me that is all I heard from Rosemary. Richie, Richie, Richie. They were close friends and I knew she had a crush on him even back then.
We all moved on with our lives so it was a wonderful and welcomed surprise that years later Richie (now adult Rich) and Rosemary had reunited and married. He joined the family and was a great stepfather to Justin, Shea, and Kate. My visits with them at their home in Boston or the beach house were always filled with fun, gastronomic pleasures, and laughs. Goodbye my friend, goodbye my cousin, Rich. You will always be missed by all of us.
