He was born in Bronx, NY on March 4, 1929. Beloved husband of Grace (nee McDonough) for 63 years. Devoted father to Michael and his wife Liz of The Villages, FL and Peggy Dellabough and her husband Derek of Warwick, NY. Cherished grandfather to Stephanie Mak and her husband Xiao-Wen, Ashley, Austin, Chelsea Canara and Zachary, Hannah, and Blake Dellabough.<\/p>\n<p>Gerard is predeceased by his parents Anthony and Margaret (nee Faul) Canara and his sister Catherine Dapolito.<\/p>\n<p>Gerard was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea. He retired from the US Postal service after more than 30 years of service<\/p>\n<p>All who knew him knew of his love and commitment to his family and his passion for sports and animals.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be Friday December 29<sup>th<\/sup> from 4-8 pm at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale, NJ (201-767-3050).<\/p>\n<p>Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Anthony\u2019s RC Church, Northvale on Saturday at 10:00 am with interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.<\/p>\n<p>Donations in Gerard&#8217;s memory may be made to the Alzheimer&#8217;s Association, www.alz.org.<\/p>\n<p>www.pizzifuneralhome.com<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Gerard Anthony Canara, 88, of Brick NJ, formerly of Northvale, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.
