John A. Pietanza, 92, of Tappan, NY, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born in Bari, Italy and was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Isabella Pietanza. Beloved husband of the late Regina (nee Diorio). Loving father of Joseph and wife Kathleen of Pearl River, NY, Louis and Celia of Staten Island, NY, Lisa Spadaccini and husband John of W. Nyack, NY and Angela Mitard and husband Jacques of Blauvelt, NY. Proud grandfather of Regina (Mark), Irena (Alvaro), Katherine (Josh), John (Chelsea), Dominique (Matt), Johnny (Cindy), Jennifer (John), Gregory (Chrissy), James (Danielle), Angelica (Rocco) and Margaret. Adored great-grandfather of Gabriel, Caleb, Jude, Lola, Luca, Johnny, Adriana, Julianna, Vincent, Joseph, Zachary, Archer, Eleanor, Evelyn, Dominic and Alessia. Dearest brother of the late Vincenzo Pietanza. Also survived by his sister-in-law Antoinette Pietanza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John was a US Army Veteran. He worked in the garment industry in NYC as a dress pattern maker for many years before retiring. John was a member of the Sons of Italy Rockland Lodge 2176 in Blauvelt, the Orangetown Senior Center and was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed volunteering at Birchwood Elementary School in West Nyack where he was a \u201cFoster Grandparent\u201d, serving with Meals-On-Wheels, caring for his lawn and loved music, especially Frank Sinatra, and knew all of the lyrics of his songs.  He will be dearly missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting hours are Friday, June 2, 2023 from 3-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Tappan with burial to follow at St. Anthony\u2019s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In lieu of flowers, donations in John\u2019s memory may be made to St. Jude\u2019s Children\u2019s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
