Richard J. Oates, 65, of New Milford, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013.\u00a0 Loving father of Katie Velazquez and her husband Hugo of New Milford and Robin Oates of West Nyack, NY.\u00a0 Cherished grandfather of Alex and Ellie.\u00a0 Rich was a retired conservation officer for the NJ State Fish and Game.\u00a0 In 1976 he
\nwas the captain of the New Milford Ambulance Corps.\u00a0 Upon retirement he \u00a0was a drug and alcohol counselor for the Van Ost\u00a0 Institute for Family Living in
\nEnglewood and in 2006 was therapist of the year.\u00a0 Rich was also a decorated counselor for Cop2Cop, an organization helping law enforcement officers and their families in times of need.\u00a0 A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:30 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale.\u00a0 Visiting hours are from 3-5 PM.\u00a0 In lieu of flowers, donations to Cop2 Cop would be greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n
