Viola’s exceptional life began on August 20, 1926 in a house in Weehawken, NJ at the current site of the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel.  She was the youngest of four daughters born to Simon and Frances Iannaccone, both of whom were Italian immigrants.

In 1936, the family moved to Northvale, where they purchased and cleared a large tract of land that they used for farming.

During World War 2, she worked in Camp Shanks, which was a military point of departure.  While working at Robert Geir in Piermont, she met her future husband Jack, the son of Dennis L. Hogan, Mayor of Piermont, NY.  They married and built a house next to her parents in Northvale.  For a time, Viola worked in the  unemployment office and then raised her children.  She also worked as a school crossing guard and later for Hydrotherm.

She became “Northvale’s First Lady” when her husband was elected Mayor (1964 to 1974).  She proved the extent of her love for Jack by caring for him for over 3 years after he was diagnosed with throat cancer.  Widowed at 48 years of age, she immersed
herself into the well being of her family and worked to preserve Jack’s memory with
the dedication of the “John L. Hogan Memorial Park.” Her strength never wavered—her love never faded.

Viola was always close to her loving sisters, Anna Vicari, Margaret Iannaccone and the late Olympia Keegan.
