Michael Pizzi, Manager and Co-Owner (N.J. Lic. No. 4176): Long time Northvale resident, Michael Pizzi, attended Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell and continued on to graduate from Montclair State University and the American Academy McAllister Institute (AAMI) of Funeral Service. Michael has lived in Northvale for almost 40 years, and presently resides in the town with his wife, Pamela, and their children, Anthony and Jessica. Michael, who has wanted to be a funeral director for as long as he can remember, bought the business from his parents upon their retirement in July of 2014. He and his wife then formed Pizzi Funeral Home, LLC. At the funeral home, Michael is a jack of all trades, handling everything from funeral arrangements and embalming to landscaping and cleaning. He said he truly appreciates and enjoys helping people during a very difficult time in their lives. Although it can be quite taxing at times, Michael said his job is extremely rewarding. Within the local community, Michael is a member of the Northvale Fire Department; the Knights of Columbus, Council 9021; the Blauvelt Sons of Italy; and a youth recreation coach. Pamela Pizzi, Co-Owner of Pizzi Funeral Home, LLC: Pamela, Michael’s wife, is an alumna of the Academy of the Holy Angels, Class of 1992. She studied education at St. Thomas Aquinas College and taught within the Pie-Valley school upon graduation. At the funeral home, Pam handles of a variety of administrative duties and also serves as the beautician. She is unlicensed, however, and not qualified to make funeral arrangements, embalm, or direct funerals. When she is not working at Pizzi Funeral Home, Pam is an active member of the PTA and very involved in her children’s lives.
Scott W. Essmann, Director (N.J. Lic. No. 5452): Scott is a graduate of Northern Valley Old Tappan Regional High School, Ramapo College, and the American Academy McAllister Institute (AAMI) of Funeral Service. The oldest of four children, Scott was born and raised in Northvale and takes pride in giving back to his community. He is active in coaching sports, both on the youth and highschool level, a parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church and is a member of the Blauvelt Sons of Italy. Scott looks forward to a long, rewarding career serving the community at their time of need.
Anthony R. Pizzi, Retired Director: Anthony Pizzi is a graduate of Lodi High School, Bergen Community College, and the American Academy McAllister Institute (AAMI) of Funeral Service. He and his wife, Joyce, stumbled upon the desirable borough of Northvale and decided it was the perfect place to bring their family and start a business. Together, they founded Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home in April of 1977. For more than three and a half decades, Anthony was proud to serve the local community and earn his neighbors’ trust by being a hands-on and compassionate business owner. Anthony is a life-time member of the Northvale Fire Department; the Knights of Columbus, Council 9021; American Legion and VFW in Northvale, and the Blauvelt Sons of Italy. He is also a member of Rockland Country Club in Sparkill, New York. Anthony presently splits his time between Northvale and Naples, Florida.
