Mildred Prisco

Mildred Prisco (nee DeStefano), 83, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfonso and cherished mother of Greg Prisco and his wife Mary of Stuart, FL and Lisa Potesta and her husband Anthony of Orangeburg. Dearest sister of Peter DeStefano and wife Dorothy of Tappan and Joseph DeStefano and wife Kathy, also of Tappan. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Millie worked for Mary Kay Cosmetics for over 36 years and had been a director since 2000. She was a devoted wife and mother and a hard working woman who wore many hats. She will be dearly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill. Visiting hours are Sunday 2-6 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

MaryJane Brondi

MaryJane Brondi, 96, a lifelong resident of Northvale, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Alfred. Loving mother of AltaJane Slagle and her husband Virgil of Valparaiso, IN, Robert Brondi and his wife Elaine of Northvale and the late Richard C. Remy. Dear mother-in-law of Roberta Remy. Cherished grandmother of Russell, Rita, Ricky, BettyJo, Ray, Joseph, Steven, Kristie and Andrew and the late Lisa. Adored great-grandmother of ten and great-great-grandmother of four.

MaryJane was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church. She was a charter member of the Northvale VFW Post 366 Ladies Auxiliary, a founding member of the James F. McGuire Senior Center as well as the Golden Agers, and spent countless hours as a volunteer with the Pascack Valley Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM at St. Anthony’s Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY. Visiting hours are Thursday 5-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (201-7673050).

Gina M. Bender

 

Gina M. Bender (nee Ottomanelli), 39, of Ocean City, formerly of Old Tappan, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 10, 2017. She is survived by her husband Kyle and precious daughters, Sofie and Haley. Cherished daughter of Nick and Marie Ottomanelli of Old Tappan. Loving sister and sister-in-law of Joseph and Kristine of River Vale, Gary and Michelle of Harrington Park, Daniel and Rose of Hillsdale and Suzanne of Old Tappan. Dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Sunday from 11 AM to 1 PM with a memorial service to be held at 1 PM.

Gerald “Jerry” McEvoy

 

Gerald “Jerry” McEvoy, 68, of Blauvelt, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Born in Queens to James and Agnes McEvoy, he was a proud alumnus of St. Gregory the Great grammar school in Bellerose, Queens and Bishop Riley High School. He later graduated from Lehman College and New York Law School. He has lived in Orangetown, for the past 38 years, raising his family with his wife Marlene (nee Noble). Jerry was a retired attorney who found joy teaching college later in life. He proudly served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Tappan Fire District for many years.

Jerry is survived by his wife Marlene, children Shayna McEvoy and her husband Stan Zlotnikov, Philip McEvoy and his wife Lilac Inthavong, Mary Agnes “Maggie” McEvoy and Bridget McEvoy, grandchildren Declan, Hudson, Zinnia, Fiona and Jude, dear friends Patricia and John Rolland, sister-in-law Marilyn McEvoy and nephews Matthew McEvoy, Dennis McEvoy and James McEvoy and their families. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings; James McEvoy, Joanne McEvoy-Dunn and Raymond McEvoy. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 18 from 1-3 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale, NJ (201-767-3050).

Laura A. Bertinelli

Laura A. Bertinelli (nee Vanetti), 102, of Haworth for 73 years, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. Beloved wife of the late John Peter Bertinelli. Devoted mother of John and his wife Lisa of Old Tappan, Joan Tobey of Spartanburg, SC and Mary Ann Lindner and her husband Walter of Montgomery, NY. Adored grandmother of five and great-grandmother of seven. Dearest sister of the late Rosetta Buratti.

Laura was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Haworth and was a member of the church sewing group. She also belonged to the Haworth, Closter and Northvale Senior Centers.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Haworth with interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting hours are Friday 3-6 PM.

June M. Groll

June M. Groll (nee Reilly) “Mama June”, 81, of Orangeburg, formerly of Tappan, passed away at Joe Raso Hospice surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 5, 2017. June was the devoted mother of Kimberly Allen of Tappan, Richard Allen of Sparkill, Dana (Allen) Gabrielson of Sparkill and Rob Brennan and his wife Cheryl of Nebraska. She was the cherished grandmother of Kyle Boyce, and Sophia, Elizabeth and James Brennan. Dearest sister of Dick Allen of Ohio and the late Jack Reilly. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and was a “special mother” to Donna Brown.

June was a former Orangetown Councilwoman and a district manager for the County of Rockland for many years. June cared deeply for everyone she knew whether you were family, friend, or a member of the community and was always willing to help those in need.  She loved singing in St. Johns choir, her membership in Catholic Daughters, laughing with family and trips to Atlantic City.  She cherished living in the Hudson Valley and all the beauty it held.  Finally, she would not want you to stand by her grave and weep.  She is not there.  She is a thousand winds that blow, diamond glints on the snow, sunlight on the ripened grain, and the gentle autumn rain.
