Cecil Patrick Doran

Cecil Patrick Doran, aged 93, passed away on March 26, 2019. He resided in Vero Beach, Florida after he retired. He was born in Dublin, Ireland to Violet (Noble) and Thomas Doran. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. Richmond, a light cruiser, during the Aleutian Islands campaign. Following his active service, he remained in the Navy Reserves for 31 years, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Fourth Class (CWO4). He was part of the first wave of World War II veterans to attend Hunter College (CCNY). Upon graduation with a degree in English, he was employed by the American Automobile Association (AAA). He went on to become corporate travel manager at J.C. Penney and Thomas J. Lipton corporate offices. He was a founding member and President of the National Passenger Traffic Association (NPTA).

During his retirement he was active with the Northvale V.F.W. and, after moving to Vero Beach, was involved with the Navy League. He was predeceased by his first wife Lydia Krause Doran, his brother William Doran and wife Eileen, and his beloved daughter Patricia Doran Malone and son-in-law Richard Malone. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Pauline Binetti Doran. Loving father of Thomas and wife Rachela, Iris Iozzia and husband Robert, and Roger and wife Karen. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Allison, Erica, and Brian. Dear brother-in-law of Daniel Binetti and wife Christine. Cecil is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Cecil enjoyed the traveling he did with Pauline. They visited many parts of the U.S. and Europe as well. Cecil possessed a keen Irish sense of humor and was well-liked by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, April 5, 10 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY. Visiting hours are Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Joanna U. Smith

Joanna U. Smith (nee Weaver), 88, of Washington Twp., NJ, formerly of Old Tappan, NJ, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Fred. Devoted mother of Colleen Muller and husband Rick of Old Tappan, Frederick and wife Theresa of Hillsdale, NJ, Kerri Ann Smith and husband Gary of Salisbury Mills, NY and Russell of Hillsdale. Adored grandmother of ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Joanna is also survived by her beloved cat, Kitty.

Deborah Ann Yavorski

Deborah Ann Yavorski, 63, of Lodi, passed away at  on Thursday, March 21, 2019.  She was the loving mother of Amanda Yavorski and her boyfriend Matt of Saddle Brook.  Proud “Mimi” of Aubrey and MJ. Cherished sister of Diane Abbatemarco and husband James, Patricia Massimo and fiancé Allan Russo, Edward Yavorski and fiancé Kathy Hawthorne, Laurie McHargue and husband Terry and Tracey Yavorski-Norfolk and fiancé Tom Mitchel, devoted Aunt to Jessica, Siobhan, Meghan, Nicholas, Jenna, and Victoria. Deborah was predeceased by her longtime boyfriend Thomas Mansfield.  

Deborah grew up in River Vale and was a graduate of Pascack Valley High School in 1973.  She was working for Delicacies Cuisine and Gourmet Catering in Saddle Brook for many years.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.  She loved to cook and feed her family, known for her delicious coquito at Christmas time and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.  She will be terribly missed.

Matthew George Velis

Matthew George Velis, 33, of Woodside, NY, formerly of Northvale, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019. Beloved son of George and Catherine of Northvale. Loving brother of Andrew and wife Melissa of Woodside and Christopher and wife Gabrielle of Harrington Park. Cherished grandson of Maria Velis and Rita Cherevas, he was predeceased by his grandfathers, Andreas Velis and Christopher Cherevas. Adored uncle of Ava, Dylan and Amelia. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Rebecca Mandel, as well as many loving aunts, uncles and dear cousins.

Matt was a free spirit. Larger than life, he loved motorcycles and was a member of the RPM Motorcycle Club, enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, music festivals and skiing and snowboarding.

Robert J. Capobianco, Sr.

Robert (Bob) J. Capobianco, Sr., 77, of River Vale, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 15, 2019. Beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Danza).  Devoted father of Angela Santomero and husband Greg of Westchester, NY, Jennifer Brackenbury and husband Scott of Harrington Park, NJ and Robert and wife Alicia of New Fairfield, CT.  Proud grandfather of Austin, Ryan, Hope, Ella, Isabella, Aidan, Landon, Reese and Bennett.

Robert was a teacher in the Bronx at Junior High School #45 before retiring and a passionate coach.  He was a life long fan of the New York Yankees.

Stephen Chasmar

Stephen Chasmar, 25, of West Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Norwood, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Stephen was predeceased by his beloved mother Joanne and his grandfather of Stuart Chasmar. He is survived by his loving father, Mitchell Chasmar and sister, Amanda. Adored grandson of James and Lucille Sabato and Jean Avantario. He was also a cherished nephew, cousin and loyal friend.

Steve was a great young man. He was working in Internet Sales. Multi-talented, he played guitar and, like his mother, was a naturally gifted artist. He loved to hike and fish with his father and sister, always bringing the family’s big Labrador “Spike” with them.

Steve was an ace pitcher in baseball and a sure shot in basketball. He will be missed for his smile, kindness and intelligence.

Daniel F. Murphy

Daniel F. Murphy, 70, of Old Tappan, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Beloved husband of Karen. Devoted father of Jill Foley and husband Brendan of Norwood, Daniel Murphy, Jr. of Old Tappan, Joseph Murphy and fiancé Melissa of Clifton, Proud Pop of Michael, Danny, Ella, Paul, Peter, Grace and Maria. Dearest brother of John Murphy and Susan of Dumont, Patrick Murphy of Holden, MA and Margaret Murphy Rodriguez of Holden, MA, and predeceased by his brother Vinny.

Dan was a US Air Force Veteran during Vietnam. He was an IT Salesman for Bunker Ramo in Trumbull, CT. Dan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed coaching his children and those of Old Tappan for many years and was president of the Old Tappan Baseball League. He was also a die-hard fan of the Yankees and the Giants. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
