John Bondulich, 81, of Blauvelt, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. John’s parents Joseph and Helen (nee Telesmanic) immigrated to New York City from Olib, Croatia where they raised four children. John was born on August 29, 1932. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (nee Barry). Loving father of three sons; John and wife Anne of Tappan, James and wife Lindsay of Randolph, NJ and Joseph and wife Vivian of Hoboken, NJ. Adored grandfather of Jennifer, Kellyanne, John Patrick, Elizabeth, Alexander, Bionca and Penelope. Dear brother of three sisters; Jenny Hodulick and Marty, Helen Johnston and Joseph and Mary Lukin and Matt. John was beloved by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins and will be fondly remembered and missed by all.
John was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He began his career in the FDNY in 1961 at Engine Company 92 in the Bronx, NY. He retired from the FDNY as a Lieutenant after working at Engine Company 248 in Brooklyn, NY after 29 years of service. In his spare time, John was an avid handyman who enjoyed learning how things work and how to repair them. This first began during his time at Technical High School in Manhattan all the way through learning how to use YouTube to research repair methods. John enjoyed many camping trips in Pennsylvania and vacations in the Outer Banks, North Carolina with his family. In the summer of 2001, John enjoyed visiting Olib with his sisters and family to see where his parents were born.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Tappan, NY with interment to follow at Germonds Cemetery, New City, NY. Visiting hours are Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (201-767-3050).
