Mary Josephine Dowd (nee Murphy), 77, of Woodside, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Peter Dowd. Devoted mother of Caroline Mongelli and husband Vincent of Jim Thorpe, PA, Peter Dowd and wife Margaret of Pearl River, NY and Anne O’Brien and husband Kevin of Montvale. Adored grandmother of Jack, Nora, Roan, Niall, Declan and Maebh. Dearest sister of Rose Murphy and husband Jerry of Blauvelt, Anne Farrell and Michael Murphy, both of County Longford, Ireland.

Richard J. Viale, Jr.

 

Richard J. Viale, Jr., 67, of Northvale, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Loving father of Richard J. Viale, III and wife Davita of Decatur, GA and step-father of Lorraine Jordan of Paterson. Dearest brother of Terri Esola Englehardt of Norwood, John Haffa, Barbara Esola and the late Juanita Ford and brother-in-law Henry Englehardt. Cherished uncle of Kenneth Esola, Richard Esola, David Esola and Christine Esola. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends as well as his devoted dog, Sophia.

Richie was a USMC Veteran of the Vietnam War and was past commander of the Norwood American Legion Post 272.

Anna M. Vicari (nee Iannaccone), 95, of Northvale, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Angelo. Loving sister of Margaret Iannaccone and the late Olympia Keegan and Viola Hogan. Cherished aunt of Edward Keegan, John and Ida Hogan and Frances and Ron Weston. Adored great-aunt of Jesse, Ronnie, Samantha, Rachel, John, Zachary, Ryan and Ava.

Anna owned and operated Melody Haven, a record store in Closter, for many years before retiring to Florida.

Addolorata “Ada” Cantatore (nee Soldano), 76, of Norwood, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was born in Corato, Bari, Italy to the late Cataldo and Maria Soldano. Beloved wife of Joseph. Cherished mother of Vincenza Fitzmaurice and husband Thomas of Orangeburg, NY, Maria Liggio and husband Joseph of Suffern, NY and Mauro Cantatore and wife Tara of Blauvelt, NY. Adored grandmother of Joseph, Joseph Tyler, Julia, Leah, Bryan and Andrew. Loving sister of Vincenzo Soldano and his partner Maria, Joseph Soldano and wife Joann, Teresa Dell’Accio and husband Joseph and Gino Soldano and wife Jan. William George Kaufmann, Jr.

William George Kaufmann, Jr., 96, of Farmington CT, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 10, 2017. Devoted husband of Rita (nee Manganelli). Loving father of Karen Golfin and husband Larry. Cherished grandfather of David and wife Brenda and Matthew and wife Angie and great-grandfather of Nicholas and Melina.

William was a US Army Veteran of WWII. After retiring from the New York Central Railroad, where he was an engineer on a tugboat, he worked for many years as maintenance supervisor at Allendale Nursing Home.

Anne Campora (nee Lanza), 102, formerly of Northvale, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Beloved wife of the late James. Devoted mother of Robert and wife Susan of Mahwah and Alan and wife Beverly of Berkeley Heights. Adored grandmother of seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Anne had worked as an office manager in NYC for Davenport Ironworks and BRM Corp. She enjoyed her time spent at the Northvale Senior Center.

Elizabeth “Betty” Fitzmaurice, 82, of Tappan, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017. Beloved wife of the late William. Devoted mother of Susan Muir and husband Michael of Stony Point, Thomas and wife Vincenza of Orangeburg and the late James. Adored grandmother of Jonathan, Griffen, Leah, Tatum and Bryan. Loving sister of Jean Sullivan and the late John, Maurice, Patricia and Edward. Dear sister-in-law of Ann McCarthy, Alice McCarthy and Patsy Fitzmaurice. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Betty was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Tappan. She was an executive assistant at The Seamen’s Bank for Savings in NYC for many years before working at Prentice Hall in Old Tappan until retirement. She enjoyed time spent with friends at the Orangetown Senior Center.

Michael Tota, 60, of Harrington Park, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Beloved husband of Julie. Cherished son of Nancy Tota and the late Thomas Tota. Father of Thomas and Shannon. Dearest brother of Mary Faucette and husband Robert, children Avery and Ryan. Also survived by his mother-in-law Ann Butcher as well as many loving relatives and friends.

Michael owned and operated Appetito Provisions, a family business, for many years.

Salvatore J. Zullo

Salvatore J. Zullo, of Northvale for over 60 years, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Beloved husband of Laura J. (nee Ladosz). Loving father of David Zullo and wife Sonia of New Hampton, NY. Dear step-father of Jeanna Harris and husband Read of Utah and Jason Best and wife Nikki of Dumont. Step-grandfather of Timothy, Daniel, Jesse, Caleb, Annabelle and Samantha. He will also be missed by his devoted friend Angelo Moretti.

Sal was a hair stylist for many years. He owned and operated Chez Bizarre in Teaneck, Cresskill and Tenafly and Continental Hair Cutters in Hackensack.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 3 PM at Living Word Community Church, 53 East Madison Ave, Dumont.

Mildred Prisco

Mildred Prisco (nee DeStefano), 83, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfonso and cherished mother of Greg Prisco and his wife Mary of Stuart, FL and Lisa Potesta and her husband Anthony of Orangeburg. Dearest sister of Peter DeStefano and wife Dorothy of Tappan and Joseph DeStefano and wife Kathy, also of Tappan. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Millie worked for Mary Kay Cosmetics for over 36 years and had been a director since 2000. She was a devoted wife and mother and a hard working woman who wore many hats. She will be dearly missed.
