
Richard J. McQuade was born on October 29, 1936, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, New York City, to Thomas McQuade and Mary (Boyle) McQuade. He was the eldest of five children: Thomas, Agnes, John, and Patricia.
He attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Elementary School, Cardinal Hayes High School, the High School of Commerce, and the Institute of Banking and Credit. He enjoyed a successful career in banking and retired in 1991 at the age of 55 as a Vice President of Citibank.
Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He remained close to his fellow soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division, 125th Signal Battalion, and met annually with a group of his Army buddies throughout his life.
He married his longtime companion, Gladys (Marzek) McQuade, on November 19, 1960. They enjoyed 52 happy years of marriage and raised two children, Richard A. and Roseann.
He is survived by his son, Richard A.; daughter-in-law, Angelica; grandchildren, Elias and Siena; daughter, Roseann; and sisters, Agnes and Patricia.
A lifelong communicant of the Catholic Church, Richard attended Mass every Sunday. He loved traveling the world, going to the gym, and socializing with others. Throughout his working years, he spent every summer at Rockaway Beach in Queens. Richard and Gladys purchased a retirement home in PGA National, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, in 1993. Together they traveled extensively, visiting countries all over the world.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gladys McQuade, in 2012. He passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 at the age of 89.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ on Thursday, June 25 from 2 to 6 PM. A Catholic prayer service will be conducted by a priest at 5 PM during the visitation. Military honors will be rendered in recognition of Richard’s service in the United States Army.
