Richard H. Vickerman

   Richard Vickerman, 75, of Palisades, died September 5, 2011 at his home after a long illness.  

   Richard was born in Manhattan to the late Robert and Rita Vickerman.   He attended Murray Hill Vocational High School and served in the United States Army in Panama. It was during his time in the military that he married his wife of fifty-two years, Carole (nee Romer).

   Richard, a Master Plumber, was a proud member of the Plumber’s Union in New York City for over fifty years. He also served with distinction on the Orangetown Parks Advisory Committee and the Parks Development Advisory Committee.

   He is survived by his wife Carole; daughter Lynn Bulla, of Schenectady, New York; daughter Melinda Vickerman-Lalaoui and husband, Alex, of Bayonne, New Jersey; and his five grandchildren, Jesse, Devin, Emily, Reyhan and Sharif.  Richard was predeceased by his two sons, Robert and Steven Vickerman and son-in-law Thomas Bulla.

   The family will receive friends Thursday, September 8, from 10  AM to 12 Noon with a funeral service to be held at 11:30 at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ. www.pizzifuneralhome.com.

   Richard will be laid to rest alongside of his beloved sons at the Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, New York.

George D. Cattabiani

   George Cattabiani, age 82, of Northvale, passed away peacefully on Aug 31, 2011, with his son Joseph by his side.  Beloved husband of the late Amelia Cattabiani.  Beloved father of George Jr, Nancy, and Joseph.  Loving grandfather of Amy, Cassie and Joey Jr.

   He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged in December 1952.  He attended New York University, NYC, and graduated with a degree in mechanical drafting.  He worked for Meyer Strong and Jones in NYC for over 30 years, and was the head for their elevator division.  George designed and oversaw the installation of thousands of elevator projects throughout all of NYC and the country.  He served on the ASME A17.1 elevator and escalator committee and was also a member of the N.A.E.C, E.C.N.Y, N.A.V.T.P.  After retiring from Meyer Strong and Jones in June of 1987, George and his son, George Jr, opened their own elevator consultant firm, and will be entering its 25th year.  George was very active in local politics and was councilman, borough council president, several times throughout 20 years in Northvale.  He also served as police commissioner.  George was a man of honor and integrity, and never held back on offering his advice.  He always spoke the truth and never backed down from any situation.

   George was a parishioner of the St. Anthony Church in Northvale.

   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 9:30 AM at St. Anthony’s Church with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.  Visiting hours are Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Jane Maria Piano

   Jane Maria Piano, 48, beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away on Friday, August 12.   Jane was born June 9, 1963 at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ, and spent her 48 years on earth touching the lives of everyone who met her.  Pure in spirit and generous to a fault, Jane’s physical disabilities (cerebral palsy and Turner Syndrome) were always greatly overshadowed by her special gifts: her infectious joyous laughter, her angelic sweetness, her generosity of spirit, her clever sense of humor, and her unfailing ability to make everyone around her feel happy. Her capacity to give love was limitless—she was truly an angel on earth. 

   Jane is survived by her parents Anne and Anthony, her brother Mark, and her sister Claudia. Jane was one of the original residents of Spectrum For Living in Closter, where she lived since 1983.  Jane also spent many happy weekends at her parent’s house in Airmont, NY.   To accommodate all the people who knew and loved Jane, the family is holding a public memorial service at 6:30pm on Saturday, September 10, 2011 in St. Mary’s School Auditorium, 20 Legion Place in Closter.  All are welcome, and food and beverages will be served.

Laura E. Cronk

   Laura E. Cronk(nee Ralton), 94, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011.  Beloved wife of the late William.  Loving mother of Elizabeth Phillips and her husband Bill of Norwood.  Predeceased by her daughter Margaret Treglio of Sebastian, FL and her brother Douglas Ralton of England.   Adored grandmother of Gregory and his wife Lorna, Kristin and her husband Dean, Heather, Brendan and his wife Karen, Mark and his wife Debi, Laurel, and Eric.  Dearest Gigi of 14 great-grandchildren.  Dear mother-in-law of Michael Treglio.  Loving aunt of Robert Precourt of NC.

   Mrs. Cronk was a member of the Norwood Senior Center.

Rita Ann Reid

   Rita Ann Reid(nee Gilles), 72, a longtime Northvale resident, died on Friday, August 5, 2011. Beloved wife of Thomas for 51 years.  Devoted mother of Robert and his wife Deborah of Bergenfield, Debra Reid of Elmwood Park, and the late Edward Reid.  Loving grandmother of Randall, Daniel, and Heather.    Mrs. Reid was an Administrative Assistant for the Presbyterian Church in Palisades, NY.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Demarest, past PTA president in the Northvale school system, and was also involved in the Northvale Recreation Program, especially girl’s softball.  She was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years, and the recipient of the highest honor, The Silver Beaver. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, August 11 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Demarest with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery, Tappan, NY.  Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. James Marshall

   James Marshall, 84, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully  on Wednesday, August 3, 2011.  Beloved husband of his wife Mary for 52 years (predeceased).

   Devoted father of Brenda and her husband Jeff Cooper of Hillsdale and Linda and her husband Nestor Tytla of Hillsdale.  Adoring grandpa of Olivia, Rachael and Lucas.

   Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jim came to the U.S. in 1954 where he and his wife, Mary, also from Scotland, were married in November 1955.  They moved to Norwood in 1963 where they raised their family and built their life together.

   Jim was a professional carpenter who worked in New York City for over 35 years as a carpenter and had many interests and talents.  He had a great love for his family and  enjoyed a long and healthy retirement travelling extensively together with his wife, Mary.  He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

   A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Norwood.  Arrangements by the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, Northvale.

Mary B. Tramonte

Mary Bridget Tramonte (nee McManus), a longtime resident of Northvale, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Villa Marie Claire, Saddle River surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Lietrim, Ireland, she was married to Salvatore Tramonte for 51 years, who predeceased her in 2005.

Loving and devoted mother of Dawn Marie Philibosian and her husband Chip of Paramus and  Joseph Tramonte and his wife Laura of Apple Valley, MN.   Cherished grandmother of Douglas, Nicole, Andrea, Lara, Erica, Christopher and Brian.  Dear sister of Bill Quinn, Eugene Quinn and Susan Lennon; and the late John McManus, Annie Quinn, Margaret Mimna and Patrick Francis Quinn.  Also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.

Mary was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church and a proud member of the James F. McGuire Senior Center, both in Northvale.  She loved caring for her family and friends and made everyone feel welcome and special in her home.

Lee DiGiovanni

Lee DiGiovanni (nee Schwartz), 81, of Old Tappan, passed away at home on Friday, July 29, 2011.  Beloved wife of Dr. Leonard DiGiovanni.  Devoted mother of Dr. Robert DiGiovanni, Dr. Leonard DiGiovanni, Jr. and daughter Robin Fowler.  Cherished grandmother of six grandchildren.  Lee is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.  A service will be held at the Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Washington Township on Sunday at 12 noon.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Lustgarten Foundation at www.lustgarten.org in her memory would be appreciated.  Arrangements by the Anthony R. Marie C. Kane

Marie Kane of Valley Cottage, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the age of 77.  She was born to the late Raymond B. and Catherine (Killion) Churchill.  Marie was predeceased by siblings Rev. Fr. Raymond Churchill, Donald Churchill and Kathleen (Churchill) Gallagher.

In 1958 Marie married Jeremiah Kane and started a family. She is survived by three of her four loving children and their spouses: Mary Kane and Jack McMaster of Basking Ridge, NJ; Michael Kane and Loretta (O’Brien) Kane of Tappan, NY; and Susan Kane of Rye, NY; along with six of her seven grandchildren: Mike, Matt, Bobby and Danny McMaster and Danny and Christopher Kane; 14 nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was predeceased by her beloved son Danny Kane in 1983, and grandson, baby Michael Kane in 1997.

Marie was a devout Catholic whose presence enriched the lives of so many.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.   Marie particularly enjoyed sharing her passion for sports with her grandchildren.  She will be sorely missed.
