Anthony N. Italiano

   Anthony N. Italiano, 83, of Northvale, formerly of Piermont, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012.  Beloved husband of Frances (nee Sartario).  Devoted grandfather of Nicole Italiano.  Dearest brother of Anna Berkheimer of Rio Ranch, NM, Louis of Nyack, and the late Angelina Italiano, Rose Cerbasi, Lucy Palmer, Joseph  Jr. and Michael.  Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

   Tony was a Korean War Army veteran.  Before retiring he was a supervisor for Federal Paperboard in Piermont for 57 years.  He later became a crossing guard in Northvale.  Mr. Italiano was a life member of the Northvale Volunteer Fire Department, the John M. Perry Post 1044 in Sparkill, and the Sons of Italy in Piermont.  He was a former member of the Piermont and Central Nyack Fire Departments.

   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill.  Visiting hours are Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale.

Eleanor M. Flavell

   Eleanor M. Flavell (nee Meikle), 77, of Hallstead, PA, formerly of Kearny, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012.  Beloved wife of Herbert for 57 years.  Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Kathleen and Briant Bodrato of Northvale, Karen and Patrick Flavell-Boney of Northvale, Cynthia and the late John Demmer of Northvale, Michael Flavell and Robert Flavell, both of Hallstead, PA.  Cherished grandmother of Nicole and her husband Shawn, Meghan and her fiancee Michael, Shawn, Shane, Ashley, Jordan, Erin, Christopher and Jenna.  Adored great-grandmother of Andrew, Tyler and Shaelynn.  Dear sister of the late Robert Meikle.  Also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

   Mrs. Flavell was a proud past-president of the NJ State Ladies Auxiliary of the National Association of Letter Carriers.   She was a loving mother who opened up her home to many foster children.

Marie Spadaccini

   Marie Spadaccini (nee Trisciuzzi), 99, of Cave Creek, AZ, formerly of Bronx, NY and Cresskill, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.  Beloved wife of the late Frank.  Devoted mother of Frank and his wife Doris of Lakewood, John and his wife Normae of Lakewood and Dolores Birchby and her husband Ken of Cave Creek.  Cherished grandmother of 7, great-grandmother of 18 and great-great-grandmother of 6.  Dearest sister of Angelo Trisciuzzi.  She was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters.

   Marie was a wonderful homemaker who particularly enjoyed cooking and feeding her family.

Josephine B. Behrens-Whitney

   Josephine B. Behrens-Whitney (nee Capasso), 76, of Palisades, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.  Beloved wife of George Whitney.  Devoted mother of Carl Behrens and his wife Patricia of Brecksville, OH, Edward Behrens and his wife Sally of New Windsor, Jim Behrens and his wife Liz of Orangeburg and Elizabeth Pluchino and her husband Frank of Lyndhurst, NJ.  Adored grandmother of Alexandria, Jordan and Rachel.  Dearest sister of Nancy Shannon-Tate and her husband Thomas of Norwood, Donato Capasso and his wife Sandy of Harrington Park, and Diane Smith and her husband Bob of Earlton.   Predeceased by her parents, Nunzio and Elizabeth and her sister, Marie Langer.

   Josephine was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church in Northvale and enjoyed being a member of the Quilting Club and Embroidery Guild.

Anthony Michael Pugliese

   Anthony Michael Pugliese, 27, of West Nyack, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012.  Cherished son of John and Jean Pugliese.  Loving brother of Jeanne and John Pugliese IV and his wife Barbara.  Adored uncle of John Pugliese V.  He will also be dearly missed by many loving relatives and friends.

George Trotta

   George Trotta, of Tappan, NY, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Montrose Veterans Home.

   George was born in Union City on May 16, 1930 to Mario and Lena Trotta and spent his young life in the Bronx.  He then served the US Army in the Korean War.  When he returned, he married Gloria (nee Baldini) in November 1953 and they just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.  George worked for 25 years as an iron worker in the Bronx.  He then worked another 10 years with the Orangetown Sewer Dept. before retiring.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

   He is survived by his wife Gloria and his children; Laurinda Stanton, Robert and his wife Suzanne, Barbara Burge and her husband Mike, and Bernadette Trotta-Anderson and her husband Chappell.  Loving grandfather of Brooke, Tonia, Elizabeth, Robert Jr., Joseph and Arthur.  Dear brother of Albert and his wife Antoinette and the late Michael.

Joan P. Szegda

   Joan P. Szegda (nee Poli), of Old Tappan, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012.  Joan is survived by her husband Michael, and twins, Justin and Michele. 

   Mrs. Szegda taught grammar school in NYC, practiced law and then became a proud stay at home mom raising her children.  She had been a member of the Old Tappan Board of Education, was a Girl Scout leader and was an active parishioner of St. Pius X RC Church.

Elio Rocco Saccoccio

   Elio Rocco Saccoccio, 71, of Norwood, died peacefully on Jan.5, 2012.  Before retiring he was project manager for Foster Wheeler Incorporated.  He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy Reserves, a past member of the Norwood American Legion and Optimist Club.  He also served on the Norwood Bd. of Ed. and was a past member of the Republican Club of Norwood.

   He is survived by his loving wife Jeanette(nee Lombardi) of Norwood and his loving family: John of Norwood, James and Coleen of Northvale, Joseph and Nancy of Norwood, Janine and Anthony Foschino of Norwood and by 8 wonderful grandchildren.

   Domenica Fiore (nee Cortino), 86, of Washington Twp., passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012.  Beloved wife of the late Francesco.  Loving mother of Faustina Onorati and her husband Giuseppe of Long Island, Ruggero “Roger” Fiore and his wife Maria of Warren Twp. and Anna DeLuca and her husband Ralph of Washington Twp.  Adored grandmother of Piera, Vincenzo, Frank, Raymond and Dominic.  Cherished great-grandmother of Enzo, Giovanni and Adrian.

Michael “Mickey” Cahill

   Mickey Cahill, 65, of Blauvelt, died in Florida on Friday, December 30, 2011. Beloved husband of Vicky (nee Mazzucca). Devoted father of Michael and his wife Angela of Orangeburg, Jennifer Meehan and her husband Kevin of River Vale, and Dina Wolleben  and her  husband David of Blauvelt. Loving grandfather of Tyler, Mickey, Erin, Victoria, Antonia, Michael, Jake, and David. Dearest brother of Jimmy and his wife Marie of Pearl River, Maryann Edler and her husband Billy of Tappan, John and his wife Pat of Tappan, and David and his wife Ellen of Blauvelt. Also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

   Throughout the years, Mr. Cahill founded and operated several construction companies.  Before recently retiring, he was with B&R Rebar Consultants, Inc. of Englewood Cliffs, NJ.  He was a lifelong member of Union Local 46 of NYC,  a member of Rockland Country Club in Sparkill and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan.

   A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with interment to follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet. Visiting hours are Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (845-359-2323).
