  5. Two months before my dad passed away, he had his last scheduled appointment with his primary physician. She told him his blood work was good and she was happy with all his numbers. She told him how lucky he was to be 94 and still driving a car and taking care of himself on his own. He was still reading the headlines from The NY Times and had a pretty good idea with what was going on in the world around him with no signs of cognitive decline. Again, she told him how lucky he was. He looked up and said, “Dr, I have been lucky my whole life”.
60 years ago my mom and dad made one of the biggest decisions they ever faced. They traded the Bronx for Tappan and they traded the Grand Concourse for Sparkill Ave. It was my mom who pushed for this move to Tappan but my dad was nervously all in from the start as they could see the Bronx was changing. My parents bought that house in Tappan and they never looked back.
My mom and dad could not have been happier with the new neighborhood they moved into. They created a warm and beautiful home surrounded by neighbors they genuinely loved. They did not concerned themselves with how much the value of their home would increase. They just wanted a better life for their family. That’s all they wanted.
My dad would have been overwhelmed with joy at the sight and size of the crowd that attended his funeral service, burial and dinner in his favorite restaurant. This gathering of family, friends and childhood buddies from the neighborhood my mom and dad selected 60 years ago would prove to be the final validation for my mom and dad. A validation for a lifetime of all the decisions, hard work, sacrifice and love.
I am running out of space here but my dad said it best, “Dr, I have been lucky my whole life”.

Love and miss you and mom,
all that you did for us,
and all that you taught us.
    RIP Pop
