Robert H. Backman

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Robert H. Backman, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 19, 1941, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Robert was the cherished son of the late Henry and Jane (Powers) Backman. His legacy is defined by his unwavering dedication to family, community, and country.

A proud and devoted United States Navy Veteran, Robert served bravely during the Vietnam War, embodying the values of honor and service. After completing his military service, he became a skilled electrician and was a valued member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 164, leaving a lasting impact on those with whom he worked.

Robert’s faith was central to his life. He was a respected member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Mountain Council #9832 in Milford, Pennsylvania, where he contributed to the community and was a source of inspiration to many.

He shared a deep and abiding love with his wife, Patricia (Daly) Backman. Together, they built a nurturing home filled with laughter and love.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia; his son, Steven Backman, and his wife, Karen; his daughter, Kim Backman; and his cherished grandchildren, Jenna, Joseph, Trevor, Luke, and Andrew. He will also be profoundly missed by a large circle of friends who admired his kindness and camaraderie.

Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Blanche Backman, and his son, Robert G. Backman. Their memories will forever be treasured in the hearts of his family.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held at Pizzi Funeral Home at 11 AM, with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.
