Steven A. Juliano

Steven A. Juliano, 64, of Harrington Park, formerly of Bogota, passed away at home on Friday, April 10, 2015.  Beloved husband of Suzanne (nee Lavin).  Devoted father of Bridget Guthrie and her husband Ryan of River Vale, Megan Bell and her husband John of E. Rutherford and Katie Clifford and her husband Michael of Old Tappan.  Adored grandfather of Cole and Audrey.  Dearest brother of Carol and Lou Pellegrino of Manchester, Donna Barbarini of Lodi and Danny Juliano of Dumont.  Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Steven was a self-employed truck driver.  He enjoyed coaching softball in Harrington Park for his three daughters for many years.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 10 AM at Our Lady of Victories RC Church, Harrington Park with interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.  Visiting hours are Monday 4-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Thomas P. Kelly

KELLY, Thomas Pierce, 75, of Harrington Park, formerly of Norwood, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Sullivan). Devoted father of Thomas Kelly of Ocean Port, NJ, Kathleen Kennedy and her husband, Joseph, of Blauvelt, NY and Daniel and his wife, Kerry, of Norwood, NJ. Cherished grandfather of Kelly, J.T., Shane, Ellena, Melissa, Breanna, Jacklyn, Brayden and Pierce. Also survived by his sister-in-law, Thelma Kelly of Briarwood, NY his brother-in-laws, John Sullivan of Hackensack, NJ and Michael and Bettie Sullivan of Quague, NY. Predeceased by his brothers John and Hugh.
Thomas grew up in Rockaway Beach, the youngest of three boys. He attended St. Francis of Assisi grammar school in Belle Harbor, NY. He then went on to Mount Assumption High School in Plattsburgh, NY. Upon graduating, he moved back home to Rockaway Beach and followed in his father and brothers’ footsteps becoming an Ironworker for Local 580 in NYC while attending Brooklyn College at night. Later, he worked for the Port Authority of NY/NJ at both the George Washington Bridge and the World Trade Centers. Tom then founded his own contracting business, Tom Kelly Improvements, which he ran for 30 years. He was a passionate builder that left his indelible mark in the Norwood area having beautified so many homes.
Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Immaculate Conception Council 9021 in Norwood, having served as Grand Knight for three years. He was an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Parish for nearly 50 years. He, together with his wife Mary, served their parish in several ministries including CCD, Marriage Encounter, RENEW and Pre-Cana.
Tom will be remembered as a gentle giant with a love for his family, his Irish heritage and a man who had many friendships. He was a charismatic soul who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11 at 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart RC Church, 102 Park Street, Haworth, NJ, 07641. Visiting hours are Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ 07647.

Anna Forte

Anna Forte (nee Vaccarino), 90, of Orangeburg, formerly of Thorpe Village, passed away on Monday, April, 6 2015.  Devoted wife of the late Frederick.  Beloved mother of Frederick Forte of the Bronx, Marie Iorio and her husband Robert of Orangeburg and Dolores Brayne and her husband Winston of Spring Lake, NJ, formerly of Blauvelt.  Cherished grandmother of Fred, Robert, Chris, Lisa, Danny, Larry, Michael and Claudia.  Adored great-grandmother of 14.  Predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.

Anna was a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved to dance and will be forever missed.

Harold Glesner

GLESNER, Harold, 84, died peacefully on April 3rd, 2015 in Naples, Florida.

He lived in Norwood, New Jersey all of his married life in a house he personally built. He lived his single life in Northvale, New Jersey. Harold was the beloved husband of Virginia Arcella Glesner, loving father of Warren Glesner (deceased) cherished grandfather of Talia Glesner, beloved father-in-law of Laurie Glesner Howe. He was the beloved son of Harold and Myrtle Glesner and the cherished son-in-law of Matilda and Sylvester Arcella,  brother-in-law to Raymond and Anita Arcella, cousin to Jean Alexiou, loving uncle to nieces and nephews Lisa and Hugh Degnen, Mark and Lynn Arcella, Steven and Flynne Arcella, and Brian and Linda Arcella, and grand uncle to Tracy, Christopher, and Jennifer Arcella,  Dominick Arcella, and Tyler Degnen.  

Harold started his career as a carpenter under the tutelage of his father-in-law, Sylvester Arcella, who generously taught him the trade. Harold then progressed to be the President of NBW Holding Company and Building Manager of NBW.   He further went on to teach at Iona College, as well as Assistant to the Financial Officer at the College. While at Iona College, Harold developed friendships with the Christian Brothers, that sustained and strengthened him in the years since the devastating passing of his son, Warren. 

Harold’s great loves were God and golf, but nothing compared with his love for his beautiful, dear, wife Virginia.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 8th from, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale, NJ.   Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 199 Walnut St, Northvale, NJ., Thursday April 9th, at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.

Jean P. Henthorn

Jean P. Henthorn (nee Passero), 54, of Tappan, passed away on Sunday, March29, 2015. Beloved wife of Duane B. Henthorn.  Loving mother of Jillian and Elaina. Cherished daughter of Anthony Passero and the late Rachel of New City. Adored sister of Anna Spearman and husband James of Nyack and Antonina Fiasconaro and husband Frank of Harrison.

Jean was a teacher at Our Lady of Mercy School in Park Ridge for the past 10 years.  Prior to that she taught in Brooklyn and Bronx for the NYC Board of Education. She loved her family and enjoyed being outdoors. She will be dearly missed.

Joseph Straka

Joseph Straka, 89, of Walden, died on Monday, March 23, 2015.  Beloved husband of the late Antoinette Straka.  Loving father of Terry Ann Ward of Ipswich, MA and Joanne Straka of Middletown, NY.  Cherished grandfather of Joseph and Heather Sepkowski, Sam Ward and great-grandfather of Marisa Perez.

Joe was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.   He retired from Rockland State psychiatric power plant as head engineer.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 12 noon at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church in Tappan with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill.  Arrangements by Pizzi Funeral Home, Northvale.

Edward “Eppy” Kopf

Edward “Eppy” George Kopf, Sr., 94, of Sparkill, NY, passed peacefully Monday, March 23rd, 2015 surrounded by his family. Predeceased by beloved wife, Minna, dear brothers, Otto and Henry. Treasured father of Edward (Jo Anne) Kopf, Jr. and Nancy (Ralph) Wehmann. Adored by granddaughters, Stephanie and Kathleen along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He led a life rich in public service. A carpenter, he helped construct Camp Edwards Army Base in Massachusetts. Served in the Coast Guard prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in WWII rising to rank of Sergeant, U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division, 39th regiment, I company. Saw action in Africa, Sicily and Italy before participating in Normandy invasion “D-Day + 4.”  Seriously wounded near Falaise on August 6th, his acts of bravery earned him the Distinguished Service Cross and Purple Heart. Among his numerous medals he was proudest of his Combat Infantry Badge.  Post war joined parents, “Mom” and “Pop” Kopf and brother, Otto running the Mountain House Restaurant. Lifelong member of John Paulding Engine Company #1. Life member of American Legion John M. Perry Post #1044, past NY State Legionnaire of the Year, member of the Piermont VFW and Stony Point Wawayanda Masonic Lodge. Founding member of the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps. In later years “adopted” by the Northvale Fire Dept. Softball Team cheering them on at all their games. His family is very grateful to the members of these organizations and others for their steadfast demonstration of respect and support. Ever a hard worker, Eppy will be remembered for his loving nature, storytelling, wonderful singing voice, love of the Yankees, delightful sense of humor (including pranks and practical jokes!), and especially his strength of character, positive outlook and determination in the face of adversity. His genuine goodness and kind soul were evident to all who had the privilege to know him. He will be missed but leaves behind a wealth of golden memories.  A funeral service will be held Friday 10 AM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery.  Visitation is Thursday 4-8 PM.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Military Order of the Purple Heart, www.purpleheart.org or the John M. James W. Flynn

James. W. Flynn, age 89, of Old Tappan and Oak Ridge, NJ passed away on March 19, 2015.  James was born on February 4, 1926 in Miners Mills, Pa and was raised in Paterson, NJ.  James was the son of the late James A. and Nellie Flynn.  James was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Paterson, NJ and was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the Merchant Marine and Coast Guard with honor.  He spent his career as an independent process and controls engineer designing and installing complex electronic control systems worldwide.  James was married to Virginia. M. (Hinchen) Flynn for 59 years who preceeded him in death in 2008.  James was the father of 6 sons, James M. Flynn and his wife, Roseline, of River Vale, Robert D. Flynn and his wife, Analuk, of Syracuse, Utah, John J. Flynn and his wife, Penny, of Lodi, Paul A. Flynn and his wife, Suzette, of West Suffield, Conn., and Michael T. Flynn and his wife, Barbara, of Gillette; and Mark D. Flynn who passed away in 2013, three daughters, Patricia M. Lyons; of Sussex, Suzanne M. McGregor and her husband, Cameron, of Hamburg; and Constance M. Kwas and her husband, Daniel, of Wauwatosa, Wis.; he was the loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, NJ  from 2-4 and 7-9.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 23, 2015.  Burial will follow at St. Thomas the Apostle in Oak Ridge, NJ.
