Marie T. Landers

Marie Therese Landers (nee Wright) passed away peacefully on August 2, 2019.  She was 79 years old.  Marie was born on June 12, 1940 in the Bronx, NY to Harold J. Wright and Anna Marie (Gaffney) Wright and grew up in Pleasantville and Scarsdale, NY.  She attended high school at The Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel in White Plains, NY, graduating in 1958.  She then attended St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in New York City, graduating in 1961.  She started her career as a Registered Nurse in St. Vincent’s Emergency Room, followed by work as the RN for B. Altman & Company in White Plains, NY.  Marie married Vincent P. Landers of Tuckahoe, NY in 1964 at St. Pius X in Scarsdale, NY.  Together, they had four children and enjoyed 55 devoted years of marriage.  When they moved to Old Tappan, NJ in 1970, Marie continued her nursing career as head of the IV Team at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, NJ. She remained a respected and loved part of their staff for 35 years.  She also worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY, before retiring in 1998 and moving to Harrington Park.  Marie touched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, generosity, warmth, humor and immeasurable wisdom.  The oldest of 10 children, Marie was always thinking of how she could spend her time and irrepressible energy helping family or neighbor.  Her charitable spirit was extraordinary and those lucky enough to walk in her world felt blessed to have such a magnanimous friend.  When she wasn’t spending countless hours as a revered Nana to her five grandchildren, Marie loved playing her piano, reading, Nyack Boat Club socials with Vin, following NY theater, beautifying anything (big or small) around her and being active in her Harrington Park OLV Parish.  Marie was proud of her Irish heritage and that essence shone most brightly in her love of good conversation.  She was a devout Catholic and to know Marie was to know someone who truly saw God in everything and every person she’d meet.  She was passionately focused on doing for others and believed good works was life’s true purpose and reward.  She will be deeply missed by all.

A beloved Wife and Mother, Sister and Daughter, Marie is survived by her beloved husband Vincent of Harrington Park and their children Vincent (Kathy) Landers Jr. of Peekskill, NY, Annmarie Landers of Mount Kisco, NY, Matthew (Sofia) Landers of Harrington Park, NJ and Diane (Gene) Balboa of Armonk, NY — as well as her brothers Steve (Maribel), Michael, and David (Lorraine), sisters-in-law Judy Wright and Roberta Wright, her five adoring grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews.  She joins her parents and brothers and sisters, Harold, Elizabeth, Joseph, Gregory, Priscilla and Mark in Heaven.
