Richard J. Oates

Richard J. Oates, 65, of New Milford, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013.  Loving father of Katie Velazquez and her husband Hugo of New Milford and Robin Oates of West Nyack, NY.  Cherished grandfather of Alex and Ellie.  Rich was a retired conservation officer for the NJ State Fish and Game.  In 1976 he
was the captain of the New Milford Ambulance Corps.  Upon retirement he  was a drug and alcohol counselor for the Van Ost  Institute for Family Living in
Englewood and in 2006 was therapist of the year.  Rich was also a decorated counselor for Cop2Cop, an organization helping law enforcement officers and their families in times of need.  A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:30 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale.  Visiting hours are from 3-5 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Cop2 Cop would be greatly appreciated.

Viola Masterson

Viola Masterson (nee Envall), 94, of Sparkill, formerly of Monroe Twp., NJ, and Levittown, Long Island, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013.  Beloved wife of the late John.Devoted mother of Katherine Mazzella and her husband Ted of Tappan and John Masterson and his wife Patricia of Levittown.  Adored grandmother of John and Debbie Masterson, Laura and Tom McKeown, Leonard and Stephanie Mazzella, Edward and Laura Mazzella, Patricia and James English and Linda and John English.Cherished great-grandmother of Kylie, Morgan, Christina, Courtney, Nicholas, Allison, James, Sean, Haley and Lauryn.Dearest sister of Albert O’Hagen.

Viola was an accomplished artist who enjoyed a lifelong love of oil painting and Scherenschnitte – the German art of papercutting.

Louise LaVecchia

Louise LaVecchia (Sacco), 95,passed away on Wednesday,February 6th.

Born in Polla, Italy, on April 1, 1917. Her family immigrated to Harlem in 1920. Devoted wife to the late Donato LaVecchia. After living in the Bronx and Queens they became residents of Thorpe Village in Sparkill, NY in 1988.

Loving mother of Pat Matzel and her husband Arthur of Hillsdale, NJ and Dan Lavecchia and his wife Marietta of Old Tappan, NJ. Grandmother of Christine Verbraska, Dina Holloway, Maria Zaklin and Daniel LaVecchia.Cherished Great Grandmother of eight, Amanda, Evan, William, Christopher, Nicholas, Drew, Eli and Jasper all of whom brought great joy to her later years. She had five brothers and sisters and is survived by brother Frank Sacco of Greenwich, CT.

Louise worked as a seamstress in the garment district and often said she was a domestic engineer, cooking and taking care of her family and home. She loved good food, crafting, socializing, and really enjoyed it while she volunteered and participated at the Senior Center. She was loved by all that knew her and her good neighborliness, enthusiasm and smile will be missed.

Rose Frederick

RoseFrederick (nee DiCola), 93, of Norwood, formerly of Northvale, passed away at her home on Monday, February 4, 2013.  Beloved wife of the late Ernest.  Devoted mother of Robert Ernest of Morristown, Thomas John of Gilbert, AZ, Susan Rose
Frederick-Vitale of Northvale and the late James Vincent Frederick.  Adored grandmother of Matthew.  Loving mother-in-law of Joyce, Steven and Debra.  Dearest sister of Theodora Contini and the late Vincent and Charles.  She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

During WWII Rose was a member of the USO.  After marrying her husband Ernie in May of 1947, she raised her four children in Northvale.  For many years she was a Cub
Scout den mother.  She later worked as a bookkeeper at Welles Manufacturing.  Rose was an active parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church and was a member of the Rosary Society.  She belonged to both the Norwood and Northvale Seniors Centers.
Rose was always up for a good time and enjoyed her trips to AC and her scratch-offs.

Deborah A. Bodrato

Deborah A. Bodrato  (nee Corso), 58, of Northvale, formerly of Closter, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013.  Beloved wife and best friend of Glenn R. Bodrato, Sr.  Cherished mother of Cherylyn Moriarty of New Milford, Jennifer Moriarty of Cranford and Kristen Leibowitz and her husband Marc of New Milford. Loving daughter of Anthony Corso and his wife Sally and daughter-in-law of Gertrude Bodrato of Norwood.  Predeceased by her mother Murial Warren, father-in-law Roger Bodrato, and brother-in-law Greg Bodrato.  Adored grandmother of Kayla, Kira, Hailey, Natalie and Nicoletta.  Dearest sister and sister-in-law of Ellen and Val Ricciardella, Janet McAndrews, Anthony and Mary Corso, Louis and Nana Corso, Cynthia and John Picinic, Lynn Britton, and Graham and Donna Bodrato.  Loving step-mother of Glenn  Bodrato, Jr., Robert Bodrato and Malissa Bodrato and her fiance Thomas Gaspari, Jr.  She will also be dearly missed by countless other relatives and friends.
Deborah was known for her love of gardening and reading as well as her beautiful and unique hair and nails.  She was fun, friendly, and easy-going and spent her free time mostly outdoors, with her granddaughters, or with her husband and friends golfing. She was an administrator for Chrysler Motor Corp. in Orangeburg, NY.  When she and Glenn could get away, they loved to spend time fishing on the lake at their home in Texas.

   Joseph V. John J. Turner

John J. Turner, 63, of Harrington Park, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Beloved husband of Joannie (nee Murray). Devoted father of John J. Turner V and Paul K. Turner. Dear son of Dr. John J. Turner and the late Helen and brother of Linda Dunlap and her husband Barry. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

John was born and raised in Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan, and earned a Masters degree from Michigan State. He relocated to New Jersey to work for United Water. John was an avid golfer, a huge U of M Fan, and a very good friend to John Boylan and Imran Khan.

John was loved dearly by his family and will be sorely missed by all, especially his dog Luke.

Ralph J. Scaglione

Ralph D. Scaglione, 59, of Closter, passed away at home on Sunday, January 20, 2013.  Beloved husband of Denise (nee Hawley).  Devoted father of Gregg of Sparkill, NY, Erin of Mt. Laurel, and Keith of Edgewater.  Adored grandfather of Joseph.  Loving brother of Sandie Scaglione of Norwood and Debbie Murray and her husband Glenn of Norwood.  He will also be missed by many loving relatives and friends.  Ralph worked for the United States Postal Service in Teterboro for 25 years and had his own landscaping company for many years.  Ralph was a devoted family man who enjoyed fishing whenever he could.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, Closter.  Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Anthony R.
