Nanette Michelmore (nee West) passed away at the age of 96 on February 26, 2026.
Nanette was born in Adelaide, Australia December 14, 1929, and there she met the love of her life, Peter Michelmore. Peter was a journalist and his work took them on adventures from Australia to London, New York, back to Australia and eventually New Jersey in 1966 where they settled and raised their family. For the past 30 years they resided in Palisades New York, their true home. Peter predeceased Nanette in 2010.
Nan had many things that brought her joy: family, friends, art and animals, especially her dog Lucy whom she would walk up in Tallman Mountain Park.
She had lifelong friendships from all corners of the world with long-standing friendships that spanned decades to new friendships with whom she shared fresh experiences.
Nanette was an accomplished watercolorist, studying most recently at the Barn in Ridgewood and in a studio with her good friend Arthur. She found that art kept her grounded and allowed her to express joy and keep her in the present moment.
At the age of 89, Nan became a US citizen so she could participate in our democratic process and proudly cast her vote in the 2020 election.
A friend to all she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Nan is survived by her sons, Nicholas and Jayson, daughter, Tracy, brother-in-law Bill, granddaughters Samantha, Gavyn, Shannon, grandson Taylor and 4 great grandchildren.
A service will take place April 11th, 2026, at 11:30am at the Palisades Presbyterian Church with a celebration of life following at 1pm at The ‘76 House in Tappan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palisades Presbyterian Church in her name
