Honorable Judge Richard G. Ramsay

Honorable Judge Richard G. Ramsay, 91, of Piermont, New York and Estero, Florida passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1934 in New York City, to the late John and Helen Ramsay (Rowan). He married his beloved wife, Virginia Ramsay on November 19, 1960.   In 1963 they moved to Rockland County where they built a beautiful life for 48 wonderful years filled with love and laughter.

Judge Ramsay lived a distinguished life marked by dedication to his family, profession, and community.  He was a graduate of Teaneck High School where he was on the wrestling and football teams.  He then graduated from St. John’s University School of Law.  The Judge had a remarkable professional career spanning more than 40 years as an attorney and being a partner at Ramsay, O’Malley and O’Connor. He was also a Certified Public Accountant, real estate agent/broker, and instructor of taxation and accounting at Rockland Community College.

For ten years, Judge Ramsay proudly served as an honorable judge for the Town of Orangetown, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and residents alike. He was an active member of the Rockland County and the New York State Bar Associations.

Throughout his life, Judge Ramsay remained deeply involved in civic and social organizations. He was a member of the Rockland Country Club, Nyack Field Club, Wildcat Run Golf & Country Club, the Elks Lodge and Rotary International. He also served proudly as a member of the Board of Directors at Rockland Cemetery for over 25 years including 15 of the years as their President.

The Judge loved golf, travel and spending time in VanHornesville, NY at his favorite place that he named, “Top of the World Farm.”

He is survived by his loving fiancée, Gayle Grasso, with whom he spent 13 years enjoying travel to many places around the world. In addition, The Judge is survived by his children, Ellen Ramsay, Richard Ramsay Jr. and his wife Debra Ramsay, and son-in-law John Clarke. He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Christopher Ramsay; Jessica-Lee Ramsay and her husband Joseph Ruggiero, Devlin Clarke and his wife Rebecca, Dr. Virginia Logue, and Gabriella Ramsay and her husband Peter Pravata. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Lorenzo, Giovanni and  Antonio Ruggiero, and Vincenzo Pravata.

He is also survived by his brothers, Gerard Ramsay and his wife Regina,  Lawrence Ramsay and his wife Kathy, his sister-in-law Linda Ramsay and many nieces, nephews.

Judge Ramsay was predeceased by his loving wife Virginia Ramsay, his son Kevin Ramsay, his daughter Lynda Clarke, his sister Katheryn Badecker, and his brothers Robert, John and William Ramsay.

Judge Ramsay leaves behind a legacy of integrity, generosity, service and devotion to his family and friends and will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the pleasure to know him. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale, NJ. 

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, Route 340, Sparkill, NY followed by interment at Rockland Cemetery.
