Georgia Gavalas (nee Nikolakopoulos), 84, of Old Tappan, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Peter. Cherished mother of Maria Staphos and her husband George of Old Tappan, and the late Athanasios. Adored grandmother of Lee, Peter, and Ted.
Georgia was a faithful and ardent parishioner of The Cathedral of St. John the Theologian in Tenafly. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. We will always remember Georgia’s overflowing and generous heart, and how she always sought to make a difference in people’s lives. She lived by the power of her faith, exemplifying the values of respect and love for one another.
Georgia was a ray of sunshine and a source of unbending support, everywhere she went. Whenever you entered Georgia’s home, you would always be lavished with delectable Greek foods and hospitality. A loyal friend with a wonderful sense of humor, Georgia had great wisdom, never-ending optimism, and a kind word for all who knew her.She will be missed more than words can say. May her memory be eternal.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday 11:30 AM at The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Theologian in Tenafly with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery, Tappan, NY. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).
