Christel Hargesheimer, 89, of Northvale, NJ, passed away peacefully at home after a prolonged illness on June 20, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family. Christel was born on December 7, 1934, in Schneidemuhl, Germany, daughter of Alois and Maria Bartosch. She emigrated to the United States in 1959 with her husband, Julius Hargesheimer, who predeceased her in 1983. Cherished mother of Mark Hargesheimer, Frank Hargesheimer, Marina Fleming (husband Ronald Fleming). Loving grandmother of Tara Holmes (husband Matthew Holmes), Sean Fleming, and Ron Fleming. She was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Samuel, earlier this year. She was the long time dear and treasured friend of Fred Wehle and enjoyed traveling and spending time with him. She is survived by her sister, Monika, and brother, Wolfgang, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Rosemarie and brother Georg.
Christel loved the outdoors, taking walks along the Hudson, gardening, bird watching and was an avid reader. Spending time with her family was her great joy. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for the holidays when everyone could be together. A 60+ year resident of Northvale, she enjoyed spending time at the McGuire Senior Center. She was a dedicated employee of Avalon Eyewear and worked there part-time for many years until the COVID crisis forced her to retire. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be private.

Our hearts go out to Christel’s children, grandchildren, and family in Germany. So sorry for your loss.
Christel was also a part of our family for almost forty years. We enjoyed her sense of humor, her baking (!), her genuine interest in our children/grandchildren; but most of all the happiness she brought to my dad. I enjoyed discussing gardening with her and exchanging recipes.
I will never forget how she reacted to meeting our last grandchild…..a chubby cheeked, 3-month old little girl, Violet. Christel was so thrilled to meet her and hold her.
We were blessed to have her as part of our family and we will miss Christel very much!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It is lovely to hear this about my grandmother.
Christel- soul mate, companion, friend, the love of my life- you were all of these things to me. Although not married we enjoyed many things as a couple- Walking in the park, on the beach at Spring Lake, by the Hudson River in Piermont. We went out to dinner, movies, theatre and many other things. Not only did we enjoy the event we enjoyed each other. She was dedicated to her Family and Home. She battled the evils of cancer for the past 10 months and did not deserve what she went thru. My family loved her. She will be missed- May she Rest In Peace
So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was always such a kind and friendly lady and I know she was so very special to you all. May she Rest in God’s Peace and may you all find the comfort of her never ending love.
