Eileen LaViola

Eileen LaViola (nee Ullrich) died gracefully on August 25, 2018 in Saddle River, NJ at the age of 90. Born in 1927, in Hoboken, NJ the daughter of Charles and Helen Ullrich. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister Patricia Martelliti. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Mario, (2013) after 63 years of marriage. From early in her life until her death, Eileen nourished the people around her. She remained consistent in character, generosity and social graces. She had a quick wit, loved a good laugh, was consumed with her family’s well-being and was dedicated in her profession.

Education was always important to Eileen, as she would return to that later in life. She graduated from the Nursing Cadet Corps at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck (1948) as a Registered Nurse. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing came later from St Peters College in Jersey City. She met her husband Mario, the driver of a sleek convertible, on the streets of Teaneck and was married shortly thereafter (1950). While growing up she somehow managed to keep us coiffed and dressed like the Cleavers and yet you could eat off of any floor in our home. Eileen was both elegant and disciplined in every aspect of her life, yet she could also laugh at herself, teaching us the importance of this in a life well lived. She made deep and enduring friendships that she cherished. She was the School Nurse and Health Teacher at the Alpine Elementary School, Alpine, NJ. She was loved by the staff and students at the school for 26 years. Eileen was a parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Norwood, NJ.

She had a heart and soul that family, friends and caregivers will miss deeply. While we are most saddened by her loss, we are also relieved by it because dad has been waiting a long time to see her again, and she him.

Left to carry Eileen’s spirit – and we will – are her children Michael, wife Mary, Mark, wife Lisa, Donna, Laurie, husband Doug, Matthew, wife Kerri and predeceased by daughter Andrea. Grandchildren Erik, Ryan, Kathryn, Justin, Katerina, Tetyana, Michael (deceased) and Anthony (deceased). Great Grandchildren Stella, Grace, Henrik and Emmett.

A celebration of Eileen’s life will be held at the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, NJ. Visitation is Wednesday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Norwood, NJ on Thursday at 10 am followed by interment at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee, NJ.

Eileen’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Villa Marie Claire staff in Saddle River, NJ.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Michael F LaViola foundation @ MichaelLaViolaFoundation.org. Eileen would like that.
