Peter Herina

Peter Herina, 92, of Wanaque, NJ and Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2020. Born in Wallington, New Jersey to the late Stephen and Mary (nee Fengya) Herina. Beloved husband of Angelina (nee Pizzi) Herina of 58 years.  Devoted father of Peter and his wife Beth of Ringwood, New Jersey and Jo-Anne Jeffreys and her husband, Timothy of Naples, Florida. Cherished grandfather of Dylan and Haley Herina and TJ Jeffreys.  Peter was predeceased by his brothers, George, Stephen and John and his sisters, Helen Yoda, Rose Keresty and Margaret Breznak.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He graduated from Garfield High School and St. John’s University School of Pharmacy. He was the owner of Shippee’s Pharmacy in Wanaque, New Jersey for over 40 years before retiring.  He was a former Rotarian and active in his community.  He spent every  summer at his home in Lavallette, NJ with his family enjoying  the ocean, eating crabs, sitting on his deck and smoking a cigar.  A memorial service  at St. Francis Church, Haskell, NJ and a burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ at a later time due to Covid.  A celebration of life will be held at St. Ann Church, Naples, Fl on December 12, 2020 at 11:00 am.  As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095B Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fl 34105

Marion Malora

Marion Malora (nee Hirn), 87, of Norwood, formerly of Northvale passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Frank A. Malora. Devoted mother of Todd and wife Laurie of Philadelphia, PA, Gregg and wife Eileen of Blauvelt, NY, Glenn and wife Bonnie of Harrington Park, and the late Scott. Dearest sister of the late Dolores Bullock and husband Norman, and Ronald Hirn and wife Sandy. Adored grandmother of Douglas, Daniel, Kimberly, Maeve, Megan, Devon, Matthew, and Aine. Cherished great-grandmother of Parker, Finn, Marlee, Gibson, Jolene, and  one arriving in April.

Before retiring, Marion was a salesperson at Wallnuts Wallpaper in Norwood and Bloomingdales in Hackensack. She was an active member of the Northvale Senior Center, the Golden Age Club, and a Blue Ribbon winning member of the Northvale Garden Club.

Marion was the anchor of her family, a talented seamstress, and an avid cook.  She will leave behind a lifetime of memories, amazing recipes, and a deep love of family.

Regina A. Pietanza

Regina A. Pietanza (nee Diorio), 89, of Tappan, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Beloved wife of John A. Pietanza. Loving mother of Joseph and wife Kathleen of Pearl River, NY, Louis and partner Celia of Staten Island, NY, Lisa Spadaccini and husband John of W. Nyack, NY and Angela Mitard and husband Jacques of Blauvelt, NY. Proud grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 13. Dearest sister of the late Aniello Diorio, Maria DePinto, Josephine Brobson and Lucille Diorio.

Regina was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy Romanesque Lodge, Blauvelt as well as the Orangetown Senior Center.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Tappan at 10 AM on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 with burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.

Bertie M. Cohen

Bertie M. Cohen (nee Smith), 70, of Blauvelt, passed away at home surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Beloved wife of Jeffrey J. Cohen. Devoted mother of Samuel Cohen and his wife Lauren and proud grandmother of Elliot. Cherished sister of Linda Early and her husband Thomas, Cynthia Read and her husband Stephen and Leslie Gill and her late husband Paul. She is also survived my many other loving relatives and dear friends.

Bertie was a registered nurse. She last worked as school nurse for the Sleepy Hollow High School.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 11 AM at Rockland Cemetery, 201 Kings Highway, Sparkill, NY 10976.

Michael Charles Powers

Michael Charles (‘Buddy’) Powers, 85, of Ringwood, NJ and Jupiter FL, formerly of Inwood, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020. He was the loving husband of Nancy McGrath.  He is predeceased by his wife Theresa Powers (nee Dougherty) of Bronx, NY.  Proud father of Mary Beth Powers and husband Andrew Berkowitz, Jean Marie Powers, Christopher Powers and wife Patricia, Michael Powers and wife Teri, Katie McNamara and husband Michael and Tim Powers and wife Dawn. Dear step-father of Jack McGrath and wife Suzanne, Ellen McGrath Rozsa, Robert McGrath and wife Holly and Thomas McGrath and wife Lisa. Cherished grandfather of 25 grandchildren. Dear brother of William Powers and wife Jerry, Patricia Cliggett and her late husband John, Raymond Powers, Sr. and wife Kristine and brother-in-law Frank Honoré, husband of the late Maureen Honoré. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.

Michael was a US Army Veteran and was a member of the Jupiter VFW. He was a National Sales Manager for GTE Sylvania for many years before retiring. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6212 in Ringwood.  Michael was a devoted fan of the Yankees, Giants and Rangers and loved playing golf, having been a member of High Mountain Country Club and the Griff Harris Golf Club.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Visiting hours are Tuesday 2-5 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ (201-767-3050). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Blauvelt, NY with interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, NJ.

Charles A. Crasten

Charles A. Crasten, “Charlie”, 89 of Dumont, NJ passed away on November 14, 2020, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on April 11, 1931 in Bronx, NY to parents Arnold and Theresa Crasten.

Charles joined the National Guard in 1950 and served in the reserves for seven years. While in the service he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Buchwald, and they lived together inseparable for over 66 years. 

Charles returned to night school and was a 1960 graduate of Rutgers University where he studied Accounting and proudly earned his varsity letter in basketball. 

He was survived by his daughter Diane Tice and husband Jack of Norwood, NJ, daughter Donna Horizon of Richmond, VA, and daughter Dorothy Magnotta and husband David of Minden, NV; his six grandchildren, Sarah Rylick and her husband Jason, John N. Tice III and wife Nicole, Charlotte and Jenna Christensen, and Katelynn and Andrew Magnotta. 

Charles was lucky to be called Pa and PooPa by his great grandchildren Alyssa Rylick and Ashley and Lauren Tice. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Lynn Alimo. 

In his spare time, Charles enjoyed fishing, spending time in the Outer Banks, and telling old stories to his family and friends. He was a Civil War enthusiast and loved traveling to visit historic sites. 

Honoring Charles’ wishes, cremation was arranged by Pizzi Funeral Home.

Abraham “Abe” Geevarughese

Abraham “Abe” Geevarughese was born March 26, 1982 to Mathew
Geevarughese and Aleyamma Geevarughese in the Bronx NY. He was a
younger brother to his sister Anita and older brother to their
youngest son Bobby. Abe was raised in Rockland County, NY and attended
St. Thomas Orthodox Church Yonkers NY, where he served as an acolyte
in the Holy Altar. He attended college at SUNY Albany, where he
graduated in 2004 with a degree in Information Technology and
afterward completed his MBA.

In 2016, Abe met Suzanne “Jess” Chirayil in New York and they married
on September 7, 2019 in New Jersey. They both enjoyed spending time
together watching movies, adventuring to different parts of the world,
and exploring new restaurants.

Abe was always generous with his time, especially when it came to his
family and friends. He loved football, traveling and cooking; his ham
recipes were always a hit during family get-togethers.

His early departure has left a void to all those who loved him. He
will always be remembered for being funny, selfless, compassionate,
welcoming, generous, and charismatic. He is survived by his wife Jess,
his parents Mathew and Aleyamma, his sister Anita, husband Philip and
nephews Noah and Josiah; his brother Bobby, wife Sally and niece
Naomi; his father-in-law Colman, mother-in-law Glory, sister-in-law
Tisha and husband Jomy; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and
friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4-9 PM at St. John’s Indian Orthodox Church, 331 Blaisdell Rd., Orangeburg, NY. A Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 9 AM at the church with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery, Tappan, NY.

Michael John Ramig

Michael John Ramig, 39, of Old Tappan, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 1, 2020. 

Beloved son of John and Barbara Ramig. Cherished brother of Laura Ciabattoni and Katie Ramig, and her husband Mike Rhorer. Generous and loving uncle to Leah and Jillian Ciabattoni.

Proud father of three-month-old Aidan John Ramig. Devoted partner of Abigail Ocampo. Michael was also survived by his grandmother, as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Michael graduated from Northern Valley Old Tappan High School.  He was a US Marine Corps veteran. He was employed as a payroll manager for Amalgamated Life Insurance Company in White Plains.

Michael adored his son, Aidan, and enjoyed snuggling on the couch with him and having staring contests during Aidan’s bath time.   Michael had a genuine love for music – enjoying multiple genres and playlists that he listened to.  A die-hard Yankee fan and loyal to the Indianapolis Colts, Michael also participated in sports throughout his life, from Little League baseball through men’s softball leagues.  He looked forward to his trips to Atlantic City with his father.  Michael did whatever he could to help everyone, especially his family, and often without even being asked.  He was the person to give you the Brooks Brothers shirt off his back and if you asked for a dollar, he gave you a hundred.  

With a heart of gold, Michael made sure everyone was taken care of and in all he did, he did with integrity and an aim for perfection.  Michael did it right or didn’t do it at all.  He believed in family first.  Michael was the person who pushed you to be better, the friend you could always count on, the protective brother and uncle, the hero father, and the son who made his parents proud.  His kind soul touched the hearts and lives of those who knew him.

Paul Joseph LaTouche

Paul Joseph LaTouche, 94, of Northvale, formerly of Bronx, NY, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 30th, 2020. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Louise (nee Campeau), as well as his son, John Arthur. Paul joined the Navy after graduating from St. Simon Stock High School and served on LSM ship #50 in the Philippines during World War II. After completing his naval service, he became a successful Cadillac salesman in the Bronx.

He met Peggy Lane and they were married in Our Saviors Church in 1950. The two moved to Northvale, NJ in 1967 where they raised their eight children. This year, they celebrated their 70th anniversary together.

Paul was a parishioner and usher at St. Anthony’s Church He was Post Commander of the Northvale VFW and Memorial Day Parade Chairman for many years. He was also a member of the Northvale American Legion, Closter Elks, LSM Association, a Third Degree Knight of Columbus and a little league coach.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Peggy, his beloved children, Gerard, Denise Simons, Paul Michael and his wife Janet, Patrice, Suzanne Dacuba and her husband Andree, Danielle, and Robert, 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his loving sister Marie Flanagan, and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul had a great sense of humor, was loved by all who knew him, and was always making people laugh!

Harold Olivo

Harold Olivo, 64, of Northvale, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, Natale and Eleanor and his brother Anthony. Proud father of Michael Olivo and dear brother of Grace Robinson and husband Richard, Mark Olivo and wife Maryanne and Janine Cecco and husband Michael, and sister-in-law Margaret Olivo. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, special friend Laura Beers and many cherished friends.

Hal owned and operated Brite Lite Signs in Northvale for many years. He was a lifelong Yankees fan and loved the Grateful Dead. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale.
