Anthony Vittiglio

Anthony Vittiglio died peacefully on August 12, 2018 at his home in Apex, North Carolina.

He was 97 years old.

Born on January 1, 1921, in Cassino, Italy, of Filomena D’Alessandro and Luigi Vittiglio, he was the eldest sibling of Mary Cardillo and Jenny Rizzi. He married Mary Varlese in December 1949, who died in an earlier year of cancer. Prior to her death, Anthony spent many happy years with her in their former family home on Reeder Place in Rockland County, New York.

Anthony worked as a licensed operating engineer for a New York construction company, and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He later established a construction company of his own, Melvit Construction Corp., in which he served as president.

Anthony was also a proud veteran of the United States Army and was decorated for his military service during World War II, in which he took part in active duty in Europe. He was also decorated by the French Government for his role in the 95th Division’s liberation of the city of Metz, France, and was particularly honored to take part in the memorial ceremony in that city honoring 95th Division veterans, which was held on the anniversary of its liberation a few years ago. Anthony also looked forward to reconnecting with surviving veterans and their families at their Annual 95th Division Reunions held in various major cities throughout the states.

Anthony is survived by his wife, Tina Fazio, and his four daughters and their families: Diana and Magdy Elshenawy, Laura and Patrick Benvenuto, Joyce and Claudio Rodrigo, and Janet and Raul Tersy; his grandchildren: Tarek, Samara, and Mariam Elshenawy; Danielle and Patrick Benvenuto; Cristina Rodrigo and Alyssa Walsh; and Julia, Anthony, and Alex Tersy. Anthony is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Roman.

A wake will be held on Friday, August 17, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ 07647. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Saturday, August 18, at St. Boniface RC Church, 5 Willow Tree Road, Wesley Hills, NY 10952 with interment to follow at Onderdonk Veterans Cemetery, Suffern, NY.

DonnaMarie Whelan (nee Malloy), 60, of Upper Saddle River, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018. Beloved wife of Robert T. Whelan. Cherished sister of Lawrence Malloy and wife Priscilla and Virginia Curry.

DonnaMarie was a speech therapist for the State of NJ Department of Developmental Disabilities for many years before retiring.

The family will gather at the Church of the Annunciation, 50 W. Midland Ave, Paramus on Thursday at 11:30 AM with a mass to be celebrated at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

Robert J. Naperschat

Robert J. Naperschat, 76, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Rockleigh, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Maureen Naperschat (nee: Barba). Loving father of Theresa Butler and husband Thomas of Rockleigh, Lisa Sorrentino and husband Anthony of Englewood Cliffs and Brendan Naperschat of Tomskins Cove, NY. Adored grandfather of Anthony, Christopher, Michael, Katie and Thomas. Brother of Viola Thiessen.

Robert was an US Army veteran and an entrepreneur.

Zenaida A. Cruz

Zenaida A. Cruz, 85, of Bergenfield, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018.  Beloved wife of the late Angel Jugo, Sr.  Cherished mother of Angel Jugo and wife Juliet of Northvale.  Proud grandmother of Lyza Quilalan and husband Sean and Lyzzette Grassi and husband Stephen.  Adored great grandmother of James, Liam, Daniel, Ryan and Skylar.  Predeceased by 17 brothers and sisters.

Zenaida was born on March 15, 1933 in Manila, Philippines. While living in the Philippines, she worked in a law firm. She emigrated to the United States in the 1970s and was an Administrative Assistant at the Closter Library. Prior she worked for Shop Rite in Northvale.

Lucy Barbieri

Lucy Barbieri (nee Lanza), 95, of Northvale, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Robert. Michael Sharon

Michael Sharon, 98, of Norwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Beloved husband of Olga (nee Barchewski) for 72 years. Devoted father of Andrea Sharon of Santa Fe, NM, Patricia Gallucci of Hewitt, NJ and the late Micaela Fitch. Adored grandfather of Christine Bradshaw, Janel Gallucci and Michelle Gallucci. Dearest father-in-law of Gary Gallucci and Frank Fitch. Predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

Michael was a US Army machine gun operator during of WWII and had been a member of the Northvale VFW and Norwood American Legion. An avid gardener, he belonged to the Harrington Park Garden Club. He was a mechanical engineer for Stanson Chemical Co. in Bogota for 60 years before retiring.

Josephine C. Daniels

Josephine C. Daniels (nee Dellava), 90, of Harrington Park, formerly of Norwood, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018. Beloved wife of the late William J. Daniels. Loving mother of Celia Cuk and husband John of Danbury, CT, Elizabeth Pawlak and husband Guy of Wayne and Carolyn Contreras and husband John of Norwood. Proud grandmother of Emily, Sarah, Olivia, Melanie, William, Benjamin and Philip. Dearest sister of Angelina Taylor and the late Arthur Dellava and Norma Kirsch.

Josephine was born on her family’s farm in Closter, NJ. After raising her children she was a secretary for the Borough of Norwood for over 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Club 60 in Harrington Park, the Norwood Senior Center and was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception RC Church, Norwood. She enjoyed traveling and meeting new people but her cherished grandchildren were the love of her life.

Jeremiah M. Kane

Jeremiah M. Kane

Jerry Kane, 84, of Denville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Jerry was born to the late Jeremiah and Mary (Coughlin) Kane on September 14, 1933, in the Bronx, New York.  He attended Cardinal Hayes High School, then joined  the Navy where he served on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific .  After returning from his service, Jerry graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  Upon completing his degree, Jerry was employed as an electrical engineer by General Electric working on the famous GE exhibit at the 1964 World’s Fair.  Jerry then went on to work at Louis Allis and Reliance Electric for many years.

In 1958 Jerry married Marie Kane and started a family.  He is survived by three of their four loving children and their spouses: Mary Kane and Jack McMaster of Basking Ridge, NJ; Michael Kane and Loretta (O’Brien) Kane of Tappan, NY; and Susan Kane of Asheville, NC; along with six of their seven grandchildren: Mike, Matt, Bobby and Danny McMaster, and Danny and Chris Kane; his two loving sisters: Mary Kane of Blauvelt, NY and Ann Mellett, and her husband Bill, of Suffern, NY; and his beloved cousin, the late Patricia (Cullen) Kiernan of Potomac, MD.  He was predeceased by his beloved son Danny Kane in 1983, and grandson baby Michael Kane in 1997.

The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm at the Pizzi Funeral Home at 120 Paris Ave., Northvale, NJ  07647.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 23, 2018 at St. Catharine’s Church located at 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY  10913.  Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY  10952.

Vincent A. Michello

Vincent A. Michello of New City, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 17, 2018, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Vincent was born on February 24, 1950, in New York City, to Anthony and Antoinette. He moved to New City where he raised his family with his pre-deceased wife, Mary. He was proud of his daughter Cheryl and son-in-law, Robert Iorio and their four daughters, Victoria, Giuliana, Gabriella, and Olivia. He was equally proud of his son Vincent and his daughter-in-law, Laura and their three children Vincent, Tommy, and Lyla. Vincent is also survived by his sister Bridget and brother-in-law Artie Morris of New City and his sister Janet Michello of Valley Cottage.

Vincent was an avid golfer and he enjoyed Yankee baseball. He was fond of his winter escapes with family and friends to Boca Raton, Fl. and his “happy place,” Brigantine Beach, NJ.

His long career began in 1969 working as an electrician for IBEW Local Union #3. After more than four decades he retired as General Foreman of Electrical Trade Shows at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. He later became Vice President of Event Solutions at Jacob Javits.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday 10 AM at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Blauvelt with interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet. Visiting hours are Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).
