SUTER, Paul M., 81, of Northvale, on Monday, January 7, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Alicia (nee Hansen). Devoted father of David Suter and his wife Lynn of Closter, Glenn Suter and his wife Karen of Southbury, CT, Lynn Cherner and her husband Tom of Ridgefield, CT, and Jill Guenther and her husband John of Wayzata, MN. Also survived by nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Before retiring Mr. Suter was an accountant. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Eugene J. Phillips

Eugene J. Phillips, 89, of Orangeburg, NY, formerly of Westwood, on Monday, January 7, 2013.  Predeceased by his wife Helen (nee Kopman) and son Paul.  Dear father-in-law of Mary.  Adored grandfather of Mark and Lee and great-granddaughter Jade.  Loving brother-in-law of Bob and Ann Christian of Babylon, NY.  Also survived by his dearest friend June Puglia and caring friends Susan and Martha. Mr. Phillips was a US Army veteran of WWII.  He was an inspector for the NYC Sanitation Dept.  Mr. Phillips was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks, both of Westwood, belonged to the Holy Name Society, and was a parishioner of St. John’s RC Church, Hillsdale.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Westwood Cemetery.

Frank B. Pizzi, Sr.

Frank B. Pizzi, Sr. “Chick”, 90, of DelRay Beach, Florida, formerly of Garfield, New Jersey, went to spend his eternal life with his son and heavenly Father on December 17, 2012.  He was born on Sept. 17, 1922, to Anthony and Josephine Pizzi. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Pizzi, (nee Bernardo) together they had five children. Loving father of Claire Pizzi-DiPiazza, John Pizzi, Mary Pizzi, and Lucille and Joe Mazza, and the late Frank Pizzi, Jr. Frank was also the cherished grandfather of Courtney DiPiazza, and Matthew, Mallory, Dominic, and Melissa Mazza. Dear brother of Angelo Pizzi, John Pizzi, Angelina Herina, Theresa Quatrone, and the late Joseph, Peter, and Louis.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Sergeant in the Air Force. During those years, he was held as a POW, and returned home to make his career as a detective for the Garfield Police Department. He was always a hero to his family.

He spent his retired life in DelRay Beach, Florida, with his companion, Delores Hoffman. His extended family includes children, Cathy Hoffman and son Keith, Maureen and Gary Greiner, and Robert Hoffman, and grandchildren, Gary John and Jeffrey Greiner.

There will be a memorial service held in Frank’s honor on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, in Garfield, N.J., at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).

John W. Diehl, 45,  of Palisades, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012.   Devoted son of Leonard and Irene (nee Albrecht).  The loving brother of Stephen of Londonderry,

Elizabeth Viola

Elizabeth “Betty” Viola (nee Grater), 96, passed away peacefully on December
31, 2012. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Angelo (Jim) Viola in 1993
and her sisters, Francis Lubben, Florence Larsen, Ruth Berthe, and Mary Finke;
and brothers William Grater and Edward Grater. Survived by her loving niece and
caregiver Barbara Hofmeister (husband Harold), sister-in-law Gloria Grater, as
well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and numerous
godchildren. Before moving to Kingston, NY 7 years ago, she resided in Fairview, NJ for 54 years. Betty was employed by Scholastic Magazines in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She started working there in 1959, retiring as a Supervisor in 1988.

Arlene C. Nelsen

Arlene C. Nelsen (nee Sterchele), 73, of Hasbrouck Heights, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012.  Beloved wife of Warren B. Nelsen.  Loving mother of Scott Quitadamo and his wife Amber of Marietta, GA, Jeffrey Quitadamo and his wife Francesca of Wantage, NJ, and Karen Nelsen-Lockerage and her husband Anthony of Ridgefield Park.  Adored grandmother of Nicoletta, Joseph, and twins Audrey and Bradley.  Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her dogs Oliver and Gabriella.  Arlene was a 911 Dispatcher for the Lodi Police Dept.  She was also a certified EMT and was a hairdresser in Ridgefield Park for many years.  Besides family, she loved spending summers at the Jersey shore, playing Bingo with friends and trips to Atlantic City.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 19, 2013 at 1 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale.  Family will receive friends from 12 – 2 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Englewood Hospital or the American Diabetes Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
