Louis M. Benvenuto, 88, of Norwood, began his journey to heaven Saturday, April 13, 2013 at home with his devoted wife Emma Marie (nee Sanzari) and his family by his side.
A lifelong resident of Norwood, Louis is remembered for his courage, sense of humor and inexhaustible love for all. He worked as a carpenter for Local 15 in Hackensack until he retired in 1987. In those many years he built many rec rooms, pool tables and bowling alleys as well as heading a team of novices to build and repair pews for church. It seemed he could make or fix anything.
Louis was a WWII hero who served in the US Army from 1942-1944. He fought at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. Proud to be an American but also proud of his Italian heritage, Louis is predeceased by his parents Genoeffa and Pasquale Benvenuto, his sister Margaret Martini and her husband Vincent and sister-in-law Josephine Benvenuto. He was a devoted brother to Sabino Benvenuto.
His children, Jennifer Diceglie, Rochelle Benvenuto, Beverly Borzone and Patrick Benvenuto will miss him greatly. Also beloved are Michael Diceglie, Patrick Borzone, and Laura Benvenuto. He adored his grandchildren, Christopher and Jamie Diceglie, Danielle and Patrick Benvenuto, Patrick Ryan and Louis Borzone, and great-grandchild Zoe Page. He will also be missed by his beloved Maltese, “Cody”, who was always by his side to comfort him.
Louis belonged to the Sons of Italy, Norwood American Legion Post 272 and Redmen Half Moon Tribe 233.
Louis was an inspiration to all of us, showing love, humor, hospitality, generosity and a joy-filled spirit wherever he went.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednseday 10:30 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale. Visiting hours are Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale.
