Eileen T. Carley

Former Piermont resident Eileen T. Carley (nee Maye) died on May 30, 2018 in Port St. Lucie Florida, surrounded by all of her adoring children.

Daughter of Thomas and Mary Maye (nee Gallagher), Eileen was born on June 17, 1938 in New York City, where she graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine. She met the love of her life, Thomas Carley, in her South Bronx neighborhood. They were wed on June 21, 1958. In 1971, Tom and Eileen moved their growing family to Piermont, NY. While devoting herself to caring for her children she found time to participate in community life. She served as lector and CCD teacher at St. John’s in Piermont, and was a pioneer in the Conservative party in New York. As her children grew more independent, she reinvented herself as a career woman, rising from cashier to regional supervisor with Catskill OTB. Her family was proud of her success. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing all kinds of games, which she usually won. Eileen threw fabulous parties, whether tailgating at Giants games or at the many gatherings she hosted. Tom and Eileen’s later years were spent enjoying retirement in Florida, where Eileen’s life was enriched by dear friends made in Port St. Lucie.

Eileen was pre-deceased by her devoted husband Thomas in 2014. She is survived by her six children: Kathleen Harris (Scott) of Bronxville, Thomas (MaryBeth) of Blauvelt, John (Maria) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Jean Dennehy (John) of Piermont, Mary Carley-Pilon (Philippe) of Paris, France, and Peg DeGennaro (Ken) of Northvale, NJ; 20 cherished grandchildren Scott (Ashley), Bobby (Taber) Kelly and Brian Harris; Tommy, Meagan, Mary and Maeve Carley; Maggie and Michael Carley; John, Kristen, Brendan and Kevin Dennehy; Luke and Sophie Pilon; Carley, Lauren, Marin and Katie DeGennaro, and three great grandchildren Andrianna, Angelo and Ava Harris; two sisters, Mary Holt of New City, and Patricia Fitzmaurice of Bergenfield, NJ and will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased her sisters Nora and Bridget.

She will be deeply missed and remembered for her devotion to her family, her sharp wit and her sunny smile that touched all who crossed her path.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 and 7-9 pm at Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. at St John’s in Piermont followed by burial at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.

Pasqualina Colonna

Pasqualina Colonna (nee Tammaro), 94, of Northvale, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Colonna. Cherished mother of John and wife Jeanne of Harriman, NY, Joseph and wife Elizabeth of Wall Township, NJ and Richard and wife Diane of Pomona, NY. Adored grandmother of Tricia, Amy, Liz, John, Yolanda, Roseann and Dina and great-grandmother of Kate, Stephen, Hudson, John and Abigail. Dearest sister of the late Patrick Tammaro.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with entombment to follow at Garden of Memories, Washington Twp., NJ. Visiting hours are Friday 5-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Margaret Iannaccone

Margaret Iannaccone, 94, of Northvale, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018. A lifetime resident of Northvale, she was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Olympia Keegan, Anna Vicari and Viola Hogan. She was the cherished aunt of Eddie Keegan, John and Ida Hogan and Frances and Ron Weston. Loving great-aunt of Jesse, Ron, Samantha, Rachel, John, Zach, Ryan, and Ava. Margaret was a supervisor at Heidenberg’s garment factory in Closter for many years before retiring.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 10 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY. Visitors are welcome Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM.

Laurie M. Rizzo

Laurie M. Rizzo (nee Weiland), 71, of Bardonia, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018. Cherished wife of Thomas Jr. Loving mother of Thomas III and his wife Jennifer of Nanuet and Paul and his wife Christina of Bardonia. Adored grandmother of Jesse Thomas. Dearest sister of June Giuffo and the late Janice Behrens.

Laurie will forever be remembered as a “SuperMom and SuperGrandmom” who dedicated her life to her devoted husband, sons and grandson. She was a loving and generous woman, welcoming everyone into her home and making sure they left full, especially the neighborhood kids. She will be missed by all who knew her.

William Charles LaFrancois III


William Charles LaFrancois III, of Garnerville and In recent years a resident of Closter. Passed away at Westchester medical on May 11, 2018.  William was proceeded by his father William Charles LaFrancois II and his daughter Alexis Eleanor LaFrancois.  William was survived by his Mother Joyce Fairclough and brother Daniel LaFrancois (Christine).  William was a beloved father to his two daughters Jenna LaFrancois Jernigan (Anthony) Haley LaFrancois and his Granddaughter Savanna Alexis Jernigan.  He also had a partner Lee Bradbury. William worked construction most of his life and loved his work.  The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 19th 2018 from 1:00-3:00 at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue Northvale NJ. 201-767-3050.

Mark A. Pietro

Mark A. Pietro, 57, of Grandview-On-Hudson, NY, formerly of Old Tappan, NJ and Queens, NY, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 11, 2018. Cherished father of Deanna of NYC, Alicia of Old Tappan and Halle of Old Tappan. Loving brother of Susan Pietro of Colorado. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Gertrude.

Besides being a loving and devoted father to his three daughters, Mark was also an avid NY Rangers fan. He was a CEO in the telecommunications field before retiring and starting other business ventures.

Henry Molina

Henry Molina, born in Metapan, El Salvador on November 3rd, 1990. He is the second of two sons, a joyful and happy boy who always looked at the bright side of life. He was a hard worker and a caring person with whoever touched his life.

Very well known for working at Northvale Diner, a loved son, brother, husband, cousin, friend, and brother-in-law. You will always be remembered and may he Rest In Peace.

Visiting hours are Friday May 11 from 5-9 pm and Saturday May 12 from 12-2:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 3 PM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale.

George R. “Bob” Nemchek

George R. “Bob” Nemchek, 86, of Norwood, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Born on July 24, 1931. Survived by Millie, his wife of 58 years. Loving father to daughter Barbara and her husband Phillip Mones, and son Robert and his wife Beth. Adoring grandfather of Katie, Steven, Victoria, Jana, and Christiana.

After graduating from Aviation Trades in NYC, he served in the Army in Alaska during the Korean War. During 35 years at NY Telephone , he started as a switchman while earning an Electrical Engineering degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Afterwards he became a Planning Engineer at NY Telephone headquarters, and a Staff Engineer at Bell Labs.

In retirement, Bob substituted at Northern Valley High School. He also enjoyed travelling extensively with his wife Millie, and relaxing at their cabin in the Catskills.

Bob was active in the community, teaching Sunday School at Prince of Peace in Old Tappan, leading Norwood Cub Scout Pack 120, as a Norwood Ambulance Corps EMT, and membership in the Norwood Senior Citizens Club.

His life-long passion was modeling, building intricate replicas of airplanes, trains, and ships. No home improvement project was too challenging for him. He will be missed by us all.

A memorial service will be held Saturday June 2, 2018 at 11 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Old Tappan.

John “MACK” McLafferty

John P. McLafferty “MACK”, 82, of Norwood, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Mack was a proud United States Marine. He served 20 years in the Corps , did two tours in Vietnam and rose to Staff Sargent before retiring. He then worked at John J. Demarest Supply as a security guard for 27 years. He also belonged to the Marine Corps League and the Norwood American Legion.

Mack is survived by his brother James and his wife Marilyn of Red Hook, NY and sister Margaret Lowe and her husband Stanley of Harrington Park. He is also the beloved uncle of four nephews, two nieces, two great-nephews and two great-nieces.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Victories RC Church, Harrington Park. His cremains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Visiting hours are Monday 4-7 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Arthur William “Bill” Ryan

Arthur William “Bill” Ryan, 78, of Old Tappan, NJ, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of May 2, 2018. Bill was born on July 26, 1939, in Timmins, Ontario, to Lois Rogers, and had a younger brother, Grant, who predeceased him. Bill was married to Catherine Ryan (nee Dorney) and had a daughter, Julie Ryan. Bill was a Vice President for A.C. Nielson for over 30 years, before retiring to his favored activities including golfing, fishing, and socializing with friends. In his younger years, Bill held Canadian titles in Enduro Racing, was a competitive Side Car Racer, and was an avid hockey player and well-loved coach. Even into his 60’s, Bill would love to play hockey with the local teenagers at Stone Point Park, in Old Tappan. Later in life, Bill could be found fawning over his beloved granddaughter, Ella; wrangling golfers as a ranger at River Vale Golf Club; paling around with his loyal four legged side kick, Luna. Bill is survived by his wife, Cathy, his daughter, Julie, and his granddaughter, Ella; and many beloved relatives in Canada.
