Daniel Lawrence Bibb, 71, of Harrington Park, New Jersey, died on January 3, 2026, surrounded in love by his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Gabriele Higgins Bibb; daughter Devon Bibb and George Valdivia; and daughter Diana Bibb. His daughter Danielle Bibb predeceased him on January 7, 2024.
Dan will be greatly missed by his sisters Susan Markisz, and Barbara Carns; sister-in-law Ann Higgins; brother-in-law Michael Higgins; cousin Gwynne Barila; and aunt Antoinette Barila. Dan is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, and countless others whose lives he touched. His life was defined by an unwavering love of family and friends.
When he was younger, Dan attended Villanova University, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, followed by a Masters of Arts Degree in Political Science. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor at Seton Hall Law School, and began a 40-year career in criminal litigation and trial practice at the state and federal level, both as a prosecutor and later as a defense attorney. In 1982, he joined the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, as an Assistant District Attorney. Dan was a legendary prosecutor in the D.A.’s Office, earning the respect of fellow prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and the NYPD. He was one of only a dozen prosecutors to be named Senior Trial Counsel.
Dan met the love of his life, Gabriele, and they married in May 1988. They welcomed three daughters Danielle, Devon and Diana. Dan’s most cherished traditions included beach vacations with his family to the Outer Banks, North Carolina; sitting by the pool or at the beach; hosting celebrations for family and friends; and watching epic high fantasy adventure and action films. He was a devoted “Dead Head,” attending many Grateful Dead concerts. Dan loved attending dinners and gatherings, talking about old and cold cases, and reminiscing with friends at Forlini’s, Coogan’s, Uncle Jack’s and Villa Mosconi in Manhattan, and PJ Finnegan’s in Westwood. Dan’s was a life well-lived, and his absence leaves a lasting void for all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 2-6 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, New Jersey. A memorial service will take place on Monday, January 19 at 11 AM at the Community Church of Harrington Park, 1 Spring Street, Harrington Park, New Jersey.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Dan embodied this quote from MLK. He was the epitome of a stand up guy. Loved talking law and life with him. I am blessed to have been his friend.
I am so very sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. I was happy to have spent so many holidays and celebrations at his table, always surrounded by the family and friends he loved so much. I’ll always cherish those memories.
Sending you all my love,
Carol Marcus
As a fairly young NYPD officer I was involved as first officer on scene for homicide
Dan Bibb assigned the case when the detectives arrested the man Dan treated this rookie with respect and courtesy It was a pleasure to work with him
A friendship developed and he always had time for me whenever I was in court
Took me to lunch several times Shared life stories and current cases
He spoke to me in detail about his decision to leave the DA office
I always was in awe of a man of his integrity and intelligence In the last few years his comments on social media to me guided and supported or respectfully disagreed with me
My prayers to this wonderful human being family and friends
The world lost a valuable person but God gained a great resource
Dan was a great mentor to me on the pool deck. We clicked right away. Not sure if was the fact that I have 2 daughters or if I was former law enforcement or just because he’s that kind of guy. As I rose through the official ranks he was their with pointers. When he decided to not renew his certification a couple years ago, my youngest came to say good bye at his last Fast Times meet in Lyndhurst. She couldn’t say it without crying and got Dan to cry a little too. As I took over Dan’s duty as Meet Referee for Scarlet I also revert back to his mentorship.
Off the pool deck he offered guidance when my friends teenage daughter was tragically killed in a car accident by an impaired driver. My friend didn’t like the plea deal being offered, so I reached out to Dan. Dan knew exactly what the plea was before I explained it to me. He said to me, “Mike, a friend of yours is a friend of mine. It he wants to, I’ll represent Pro Bono.”
That was the Dan I knew. I’m sorry to hear of his passing.
I worked with Dan in the Manhattan DA’s office from 1983-1987. He was a unique person with a wonderful smile, principled integrity, a sense of fun, and good vibes all around. My memories are fond and deep, though we had not connected over the decades since. My condolences to Dan’s wife and children and all who love him.
