John Quattrock

John Quattrock, Jr., 85, of Hudson, FL, formerly of Northvale, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018. Beloved husband of Gerry. Cherished step-father of Nick Sfraga and wife Rosanna, Gina Capuano and husband Philip and Salvatore Sfraga. Adored grandfather of Stephanie and husband Medi, Peter and wife Abby, Salvatore, Samantha, Angela and husband Michael and Meghan. Loving great-grandfather of Jadon, Sophia and Nicholas.

John was a US Air Force veteran during the Korean War. He was an engineer for the City of NY for many years before retiring to Florida with his beloved wife Gerry.

Marianne DiLuzio

Marianne DiLuzio (nee Albanese), 67 of Tappan, originally from Northvale, died on Thursday, September 20, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael, and their daughter, Kristina. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Miller of Tappan, Denise and Robert Wagner of River Vale, and Linda and Kenneth Kraus of River Vale. Marianne also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors whom she loved very much. She is predeceased by her parents Flora and Joseph Albanese of Northvale.

Marianne was known for her generosity and sense of humor. She loved to travel and spend time at the beach, to take photos, and to celebrate the holidays. Marianne was blind and throughout her life faced many serious health issues. Despite this, she had an optimistic outlook on life which served as an inspiration to all who knew her. During her last hours, she thanked her family and friends for all their help and companionship and wanted everyone to remember to enjoy themselves and live life to the fullest.

Mildred M. Essmann

Mildred M. Essmann (nee Schlendorf), 99, of Northvale, formerly of Tenafly and Demarest, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Rudolf. Loving mother of William Essmann and wife Susan and Elaine Essmann. Cherished grandmother of three grandsons and their wives, William Jr. and Claire, Shawn and Sharon and Brett and Tiffany. Adored great-grandmother of Ryan, Scott, Austin, Lilly, Alexa, Troy and Alex. Dearest sister of the late John.

James Millar

James (Jim) Millar, 86, surrounded by his loving family, died peacefully on September 13th 2018. Jim was raised in Englewood New Jersey. After graduating from Dwight Morrow High School, he attended St. Michael’s College in Vermont. Jim transferred and graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. It was there that he met his future wife, Ann Scheuer of Freemont, Ohio, with whom he enjoyed a long and happy marriage lasting 62 years.

 

As newlyweds they spent several years in Texas and Oklahoma while Jim served in the Air Force. They moved to New Jersey, where Jim embarked on a successful career in the textile industry. Jim work for Greenwood Mills where he was in charge of sales and marketing and ended his career at Inman Mills where he served as president. Jim was honored for his dedication and service to the New York Board of Trade, acting as chairman of the textile section.

 

Jim cherished most spending time with his wife and children and their seven grandchildren. Jim was a long-time member of Hackensack Golf Club where he loved playing golf with his friends and family. He was also a member of Sailfish Point Golf Club in Stuart Florida. Jim was a parishioner at Harrington Park’s Our Lady of Victories for over 50 years.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Ann (nee Scheuer). Loving father of Cathy Harding and husband Justin of Malvern, PA, Lowell Millar and wife Jennifer of Summit, NJ, Patricia Millar of Portland, OR and Susan Antonelli and husband Mario of Oradell, NJ. Adored grandfather of Cathy, Jessica, Nicole, Carlo, L.J., Chase and William. Dear brother of Robert of NYC and the late John.

Kathryn Frances Genco

Kathryn “Kathie” Frances Genco (née Ernst), of Harrington Park, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Friday, September 7, 2018. She was 79 years old.

 

Kathie was born in St. Louis, Mo., on July 2,1939, to Louis and Lucille Ernst. She met Joseph A. Genco on what turned out to be a successful blind date, and the two married on May 28,1960. After living for a brief time in St. Louis and Brooklyn, the young family moved to New Jersey, though they would frequently vacation in St. Louis to visit family and attend Kathie’s annual high school reunions at Laboure. They also spent many wonderful summers in Upstate New York at Genco Village.

 

She and her husband raised five children in Haworth, N.J. They ran a chiropractic office in Teaneck and then later out of their home, with Kathie serving as office manager. The practice helped to inspire a lifelong dedication to healthy living, which she imparted to her children and grandchildren.

 

It’d be difficult to find someone as kind as Kathie. She was always very sensitive to the feelings of others, spoke softly and listened intently.

 

But even at five-feet-tall, she could be commanding. When playing a game with her grandchildren in which a wink meant elimination, she won silently and swiftly. And with just a look, she could stop her husband from reaching for that second (or third) cannoli. She was an eagle-eyed guardian of her family’s health.

 

She was also a devout Catholic who was devoted to Mary and a dedicated parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Haworth. She supported the Right to Life organization, was involved in Cursillo and Cornerstone and served as president to her local chapter of the Rosary Society. She also enjoyed playing piano and guitar. And though she was the first to admit that her voice perhaps needed some refining, she loved singing in the church’s choir and worked hard at fine-tuning her God-given instrument.

 

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Dr. Joseph Genco; her daughter, Joanette (Frank) Femia; her daughter, Lucy (Kenneth) Brenzel; her daughter, Nina (Michael) Ortore; daughter, Marian (Michael) Hobbins; son, Joseph (Catherine) Genco; grandchildren, Anthony, Vincent (Sarah), Christopher (Caitlyn), Kathryn, Joseph (Jacqueline), Michelle, Keryn, William, Grace, Michael, Olivia, Caitlin and Joseph Patrick; and great-grandchildren, Luca, Everleigh and Juniper; her sister, Mary Lauer; her sister, Jo Ann Cwiklowski; her brother, James Ernst; and many nieces, nephews and sister- and brother-in-laws.

 

She is predeceased by her parents, Louis and Lucille Ernst; brothers, Paul and Brother Louis Ernst; and sister, Alice Gambill.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Scared Heart Church, Haworth, on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 12 noon with entombment of to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.

The family asks that donations in Kathie’s name be made to Sacred Heart Church at 102 Park Street, Haworth, N.J., 07641 in lieu of flowers.

 

 

Antoinette T. Powers

Antoinette “Toni” Powers (nee Calarco), 92, of Ridgefield Park, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Powers, Sr. Cherished mother of Thomas J. Powers, Jr and wife Cheryl of Mohegan Lake, NY, Patrice Ann Powers-Feigel and husband Stephen of West Milford, NJ, Dennis Powers and wife Maureen of Naples, FL and Frances Brogan and husband Bernie of Northvale, NJ. Adored grandmother of Stacey (Ed), Brian, Christopher (Danielle), Kerry (Keith), Ryan, Daniel, Toniann and Kelly. Great-grandmother of Peyton and Christopher Thomas, Jr. She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters and was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 15 at 11 AM at St. Anthony’s Church, 199 Walnut St., Northvale.

Agostino Feola

Agostino Feola, 70, of Fair Lawn, passed away at home on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Beloved husband of Maria (nee Acosta). Devoted father of Anthony. Dearest brother of Cristina, Lucia and Salvatore.

Augie, after retiring from managing various textile businesses in northern New Jersey, went to work for Juicy Platters in Fair Lawn where he was well liked by everyone with his infectious smile and jokes.

Jeane Mary Traudt

Jeane Mary Traudt (nee Hurley), 57, of Northvale, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Adored wife of Matthew Traudt. Cherished daughter of Olivene and the late Patrick Hurley. Loving sister of Maria Hurley, Patrick and Mary Hurley and Gerard and Tasha Hurley. Beloved aunt of Kevin, Brian, Shanna, Connor and the late Christina. Also survived her many loving in-laws in the Traudt family.

Jeane was born in New Zealand and was raised in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland before immigrating to the US in 1987. She became a proud American and was past president of the Norwood American Legion Auxiliary Unit 272, a member of the Bergen County American Legion Color Guard and was a great supporter of the Paramus Veterans Home. A passionate lover of animals, especially horses, Jeane owned and operated West Carbery Stables in Orangeburg with her husband Matt. She will be deeply missed by her faithful horses, Merlin, Kermit and Rob Roy.

Anthony DiPaola

Anthony Louis, Anacleto, Raimondo DiPaola, 91, of Harrington Park, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Anthony was the beloved husband of the late Louise DiPaola to whom he was married for 50 years. Anthony was born in The Bronx in 1927. He and his loving wife, Louise, met and married at Mount Carmel Church in the Bronx and later moved their family of six to Rockland County, NY. Anthony was a Veteran WWII U S Army. A 1949 graduate of Manhattan College, Anthony worked for the State of New York, Insurance Department as a Senior Examiner and was able to enjoy retirement for close to 30 years. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his friends and family.

A loving father, Anthony is survived by his daughters, Susan Joyce, Frances DiPaola, Barbara Porter, Son-in-Law, John Porter and his son, Douglas DiPaola and Daughter-in-Law, Joanne DiPaola; and five grandchildren, with whom he shared a close and special relationship: Anthony and Francesca DiPaola, Elizabeth and John Fruhmann and Marisa and Scott Carrothers. A funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Norwood, NJ on Wednesday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation is Tuesday 4-7 p.m. at Pizzi Funeral Home, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Interment will follow at Saint Catharine’s Cemetery in Sea Girt, NJ where he will rest beside his wife, Louise.
