Josephine Tolve

Josephine Tolve (Gianino), 82, a long-time resident of Norwood, NJ affectionately known to her family as Joan and to her friends as Jo or Big Red passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Beloved wife of the late John J. Tolve. Cherished mother of Jeanine Tolve and Denise Tolve Friedland and Jeanine’s partner, Joseph Quinn. Proud grandmother of Marlee Friedland and JakeFriedland. Dear sister of the late Salvatore Gianino.  

Josephine was the Nursing Home Coordinator at Englewood Hospital for 27 years.  Josephine was a long time choir member at Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood, a volunteer and the best hostess and chef anyone will ever meet.

Due to the seriousness of the Corona Virus outbreak and the restrictions in place, there will be a small private burial this week and we will celebrate her life with family and friends in the future.

John H. Rice, Jr.

John H. Rice, Jr., 77, of Harrington Park, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020. Beloved husband of 52 years to Donna (nee Siebert). Loving father of John H. Rice, III and his wife Patricia of Suffern, NY and Dione Olson and her husband Robert of Hillsdale. Proud grandfather of Zachary, Daniel, Jesse and Gracie Jo. Dearest brother of Diane Zimmerman, Christine Hickey and Margo Sprague and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

John was a USMC veteran.  Before retirement, he was an electrician with Local 3. An avid outdoorsman, John belonged to Trout Unlimited, Rochelle Park, Healing Waters, Hackensack and the Eagle Mountain Hunting Club. He was also an avid gardener.

Unfortunately, due to the current world health crisis funeral services will be postponed.

A memorial celebration of John’s life will take place at a future date and will be announced.

Ronald W. Quackenbush

Ronald W. Quackenbush, 78,  died on March 12, 2020. Devoted husband of the late Angela A. (nee Andretta). Beloved father of Dr. Debra Canapp and her husband Dr. Sherman Canapp, DVM’s of Clarksville, MD. Loving grandfather of Allyson, Caden and Isabella. Dearest brother Sandra Gethings, uncle of Robin and Brenda and brother-in-law of Joann and Gary Appleton.

Ron was born August 10, 1941 to the late Norman and Evelyn Quackenbush. He proudly served in the US Air Force. Before retiring he was a computer programmer. Ron was a life member of the Northvale Fire Department and was a former Chief.

Gertrude Bodrato

Gertrude Bodrato of Norwood, NJ passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2020.  She was 92 years old.

Gertrude was born on September 17, 1927 in Englewood, NJ she was the eldest of four children to Hans and Katherine Walther.

She adored her husband and three sons and was a matriarch to her family.  She loved the beach and had a passion for playing golf and tennis.   She will most be remembered for being the epitome of grace and giving without condition. Her spirit and soul were unparalleled, and she will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.

Gertrude is survived by her sons:  Glenn and his partner Candy, and Graham and his wife Donna; her grandchildren:  Glenn and his wife Jessica, Robert, Malissa and her husband Tommy; Nicole, and Graham;  and her great-grandchildren Kira, Hailey, Nicoletta, and Dominic.  She is also survived by her sister Alma Kohut and her brother Paul Walther and his wife Barbara; her nieces and nephews:  Kerry and Janice Bender, Patti and Kyle Lippman, Dennis and Tina Kohut, Kyle and Tracy Bender, Jean Bender, Steve Patterson, Gary and Mary Bodrato, Eddie and Kim Bodrato, Chante Bodrato, Paul Walther, Jr. and Patti Walther Lukas; as well as  many cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Roger, her son Gregg, her sister Joan Bender and brother in-law Joe Bender, her brother in-law Patrick Kohut, her brother-in law Russell Bodrato and his wife Eleanor, her nephew Kevin Bender, and her niece Katherine Patterson.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday March 16, 2020 at 10 AM at Saint Anthony’s in Northvale with internment to follow in Rockland Cemetery Sparkill, NY.  Visiting hours are Sunday March 15, 2020 2 – 5 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale, NJ, (201) 767-3050.

Janina Porman



Janina (Schastnijs) Porman, 96, of Harrington Park passed away on February 26,2020.  Janina was predeceased by her two children Raymond (2008) and Larisa Porman McCloskey (2010).  She is survived by Grandchildren Kirsten Porman, Allison Porman Swain (John), Tyler McCloskey, and Hailey McCloskey. Mother-in-law to Marcy Silvestri and Kenneth McCloskey.

Janina immigrated to the United States from Latvia (Baltic States) as a teenager.  After making ends meet through various jobs she married and settled in Harrington Park to raise their family.  Janina took great pride in her children and enjoyed entertaining a multitude of guests at their home on Rugen Drive. After moving to Westwood for a period of time, Janina was very happy to return to Harrington Park when she became an original resident of Brookside Village. Janina was delighted to make new friends throughout her 25 plus years at Brookside.  Her return to Harrington Park also meant renewing her relationship with Our Lady of Victories Parish.  A very spiritual person her entire life, Janina attended Mass sacredly.  Later, when unable to physically attend, Janina would watch Mass on television as much as possible.  Other interests included viewing old movies, reading books, and listening to classical music.

Visiting hours are Friday, March 13, 2020 from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Vicxtories RC Church, Harrington Park with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.

Laureen Lorentz Daviet

Laureen Lorentz Daviet, a native of New Jersey, and resident of Norwood, passed away on March 10, 2020 at the age of 52. Laureen was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved spending time with her friends and family, laughing, crocheting, going to AC Moore, watching Disney movies, laying by the pool in the summertime and, most of all, being a mother.

She is survived by her husband, John Daviet, daughter, Kayla Daviet; son Jason Daviet, parents Thomas and Lorraine Lorentz; brother Thomas Lorentz Jr.; sister Dawn Lorentz; and sister-in-law Patty Daviet. Laureen will be deeply missed by many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 @ 1 – 3:30 pm, funeral service at 3:30 pm at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).  Cremation will follow at a later date.

Kathleen R. Giarnella

Kathleen R. Giarnella (nee LoScalzo), 82, of Suffern, formerly of Tappan, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Ralph. Loving mother of Donna Orecchio of Nanuet, Kathy Pioli and husband Randy of New City and the late Joseph. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Lea (Alex), Adam (Mariella), Michael (Irina), Carly (Andrew), Talia and Victoria. Adored great-grandmother of Layla. Dearest sister of Benedict and Anne Marie LoScalzo, Joseph and Mary LoScalzo and the late Mary Ann Vecchio.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 13, 2020 at 12 Noon at St. Augustine RC Church, 140 Maple Ave, New City with entombment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet.

Brian E. Ulione

Brian E. Ulione, 65, of St. Louis, MO passed away on January 18, 2020. Raised in Paramus, NJ, he was predeceased by his parents, Emil J. and Muriel Ulione. Brian is survived by his wife Wendy, son Michael Ulione, sister Karen Buongiorno, stepson Chad, niece Nicole Silcher and nephew Mark Ciccarelli.

Brian graduated Paramus High School in 1972 and Rutgers University in 1976. He was general manager for the Rouse Company for many years and vice-president of the St. Louis Rams in 2002. Brian was president of his own commercial real estate business at the time of his passing.

A memorial service has been postponed and will be held at a later date.

Mary Ann DiPasquale

Mary Ann DiPasquale (nee Dino), 72, of Waldwick, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020. Born and raised in Cliffside Park and Palisades Park, Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Aurora Dino. She was the beloved wife of Anthony for 52 years. Devoted mother of Damien DiPasquale and his wife Maribel of Waldwick. Proud grandmother of Santino, Ava Jade, Bianca Torre and Isabel Felicia.

Mary Ann was Girl Scout Leader of Troop 487 Epiphany Church in Cliffside Park, the same church she was married on October 21, 1967. She owned Dino’s Shoe Repair with her husband Tony and belonged to the Emerson Chamber of Commerce.

Rose M. Lotterman (nee Di Blasio), 88, of Cresskill, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020.   Beloved wife of the late Raymond Lotterman.  Devoted Mother of Ron Bisig & his wife Nancy of Bradenton, FL, Lisa Bisig of Cresskill, NJ, and loving Stepmother to Ray Lotterman Jr. of Cresskill, NJ.  Proud Grandmother of Nicole Ford and Keith Bisig and adoring Great Grandmother to Rayleigh and Wyatt Ford. Beloved daughter of Josephine and Salvatore Di Blasio.  Dear Sister to the late Joseph, Frank, Victor, Anthony, Ralph, Salvatore, Jennie, Fina, Suggie, Alex and Sally.  She is also survived by her Sisters-in-law Ida Di Blasio, Marie Di Blasio and Shirley Moroney as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rose’s family was the pride and joy of her life and the legacy of her spirit and passion for life will live on through them.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11 AM at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, 55 West Demarest Ave, Englewood, NJ with a gathering of family and friends at the church from 10-11 before the mass.
