Hugh J. Flanagan, 84, of Northvale, NJ, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, January 24, 2025. Beloved husband of MaryEllen (nee Neville). Loving father of Tara Henrici (Steven), Hugh Ryan Flanagan (Candice) and Megan Lewis (Marc). Proud grandfather of Steven, Brendan (Lauren), Sarah, Caroline, Mariah, Fiona and Liam. Loving brother of Patricia Traudt and the late Sarah Flanagan and Imelda Flanagan. Dear brother-in-law of Denise and Garry McElroy and Michael and Ilva Neville and the late John Neville.

Hugh was a US Coast Guard Veteran. He was a lineman for NY Telephone in the Bronx for many years before retiring. Hugh was a member of the Northvale American Legion Post 366 and the Knights of Columbus Immaculate Conception Council 9021.

Robert Palmay, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at his residence in Old Tappan on January 24, 2025. 

Robert was a loving husband to his wife Jean-Marie of 67 years. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Helen, his twin sister Eileen and his son Richard. Robert was a dedicated father to Toni(Alan) and John(Amanda) and father in-law to Noreen. He was a beloved grandfather to Robert, Keara, Danielle, Alyssa, Corey, Nicholas and Emilee whom he was so proud of.

Robert proudly served the United States Army in the Korean War as a part of the 40th infantry division. He then worked as a skilled lithographer for the National Law Press in New York City where he made an honest living for his family. Robert loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family, enjoyed storytelling, loved traveling & cruises, loved cutting the grass, was a lifelong hockey fan and was a Jeopardy enthusiast. We will carry his memory with us forever. He will be greatly missed.

Normae McClear Spadaccini, age 88 gained her angel wings on January 21, 2025. Normae was born on August 16, 1936 to the late John and Florence McClear and lived a full life – one filled with happiness, the joy of family, and a strong faith in God.

Normae was married to her beloved husband, John Spadaccini for sixty-nine beautiful years. Together they raised four beautiful children – Angelo, Normae, the late Michael, and Frank. She is survived by Angelo and his wife Anya, Normae and her husband Paul, and Frank and his wife Joanne. Normae was also blessed with fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren – with another great grandchild on the way.

Her legacy of grandchildren include Carolyn, Angelo John, Sierra, Gabriela, Krystle, John, Jennifer, Jimmy, Matthew, Michael James, Evan, Alicia, Brandon, and Zachary.

Normae is also survived by her three sisters; Leona, Joanne, and Florence. Normae and her sisters remained close through their lives and were known to share “everything” with one another.

Normae spent her formative years in Jersey City, New Jersey. Following her marriage to John and after a brief time in New York, New York and Teaneck, New Jersey, Normae and John settled in Norwood, New Jersey. She served the Norwood Community for ten years as the town’s librarian. Normae was an avid reader and a fervent fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She also enjoyed watching golf, and her favorite game shows – Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, where her mind was so sharp that her children and grandchildren would often coax her to apply to be a show contestant.

The family is welcoming those who would like to pay their final farewell to Normae during a wake on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pizzi’s Funeral Home, located at 120 Paris Avenue in Northvale, New jersey. Normae’s funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Communion, located at 66 Summit Street in Norwood New Jersey. Interment will take place at a date which is yet to be determined.

Ilona Marie (Stampf) Moran died peacefully surrounded by family in her home on January 16, 2025, after a long illness. The oldest of four children, Ilona was born November 7, 1940, at Lenox Hill Hospital, NYC to her loving parents John and Theresa (Marth) Stampf. She graduated from Taft High School in 1957 at the age of 16 and went to work as a secretary.  

Ilona met Tommy Moran at Orchard Beach, NY. She refused to share her phone number, but Tommy convinced her girlfriends to share it with him! Thankfully, she answered that call and they soon happily fell in love and were married on April 23,1960. Theirs was a fairytale marriage admired by all. 

A devoted stay-at-home Mom to her three daughters, Ilona and Tommy raised their family in the Bronx until they moved to West Nyack in 1972 and became active parishioners at St. Anthony’s Church in Nanuet. Ilona volunteered on many fronts for St. Anthony’s Religious Education program, as well as for their Senior Citizen program serving lunches.  She agreed to fill in temporarily as a Girl Scout Leader and 10 years later was still leading GS Troop 22!  Later, after Tommy retired, they became Eucharistic Ministers at Nyack Hospital which she continued to do for many years after Tommy died in 2012. 

One of Ilona’s most treasured roles was as a stay-at-home grandmother, helping to care for each of her nine grandchildren whenever needed, supporting them throughout their school years and at track meets, games, concerts and graduations and well into their adult lives.  

Ilona is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Fox, Theresa and Patrick Sullivan, Kathleen and James Fulgione, and her grandchildren, Katherine and Susan Fox, Lauren, Thomas and Devin Sullivan, Kathleen (Sullivan) and Nicholas Gallo, Eric and Nicholas Fulgione. She is also survived and will be dearly missed by her brothers and sisters-in-law John and Rosemary Stampf, Frank and Terri Stampf and Barbara Stampf, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.  

Ilona is predeceased by her husband, Thomas, the love of her life, her parents John and Theresa Stampf, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Michael and Mary Ellen Moran, several beloved brothers- and sisters-in law, her brother Joseph Stampf, and her most beloved grandson, Joseph Fox.

We are so grateful for her incredible Hospice team, Donna, Kelsey, and Rabbi Shlomo, and ever so grateful to the wonderful women who helped us take care of our Mom these past five years~Eileen Tucci, Nellie, Alison, Annabelle, Dionne and Mom’s “A-Team,” Arlene and Angie. We especially want to acknowledge and thank Arlene, who was Mom’s devoted caregiver at home for more than 2 ½ years.

Kevin F. Nelson, 58, of Sparkill, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Kevin was predeceased by his beloved parents Richard J. and Joan T. Nelson and his dear sister Kris. He was the cherished brother of Joan T. Nelson and her partner Glenn Westman and Richard J. and wife Debi as well as the proud uncle of William, Jace, Aidan and Lola.

Kevin was a steamfitter for Local 638, NY, NY. He loved reading and was an avid fan of the NY Islanders and the Detroit Lions.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Andrew Corcoran (Andy), 87, of Blauvelt, NY, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

He was born December 29, 1937 in Manhattan and was raised in the Bronx. Andy was a graduate of Horace Mann and Lehigh University and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.

He was employed by Consolidated Edison for over 30 years and retired as General Manager of Construction at the age of 57. He and his wife, Polly, travelled the world, visiting every continent.

He is survived by Polly Repsher Corcoran, his wife of 64 years, his daughters, Kim (Alberto) Battelli, Kerry Alvarado, and pre-deceased by Kristen Guarnieri. Cherished grandfather of Francesca Battelli, Nicolas Alvarado, Jack Guarnieri, Ryan Guarnieri and Andy Guarnieri.

A private funeral service will be held for family.

With profound gratitude and reverence, we celebrate the life and legacy of Louise Lynne Tandy, matriarch, wife, mother, and grandmother, who exemplified self-sacrifice, and embodied love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance to her family, most of all, her seven grandchildren.

Louise was born in a multi-generational family home in Corona, Queens, NYC, to first-generation Italian-American parents, and she kept bundles of black-and-white photos of fondly-remembered aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She taught grammar school children at St. Joseph’s School in East Rutherford, a June Taylor dancer with “recognized ability in ballet and acrobatic modern jazz and tap”, an avid reader of French classics, a voracious intellect able to converse and teach in any subject, and enjoyed traveling with her family.  She valued none of these gifts and accomplishments more highly, however, than her truest treasure: her family.

Louise expertly weaved together the souls of her children and grandchildren with fastidious attention and utmost devotion, uniting us fast, however far apart life may had swept us.  When she called, we knew all would be made well, and she would see to the arrangements.  Holiday by holiday, birthday by birthday, event by event, visit by visit, phone call by phone call, little-dove-emoji-text-message by little-dove-emoji-text-message, she took great pains to be present by visiting, taking trips, after school activities, over vacation, school events and celebrations, graduations, hundreds of baseball games of multiple sports and a dozen marathons as our lead cheerleader, baptisms, communions, confirmations, drives up to lakes, drives down to Florida, drives out to Hershey Park, trips to Disney World, zoos, amusement parks, and train rides at Van Saun Park, which she loved to do with us more than anything.  She would express great regret in having to decline an invitation (only because another grandchild had reserved the date) and then take great pains to promise catch-up session.  And she always followed through on that promise. 

Even more than this, Louise brought us all together around her dining table, where she reigned supreme as Queen over her court of many princes and princesses.  Those many feasts, given on holidays or just thrown together at a moment’s notice and for no reason but her own pleasure, were unerringly of her sole design, plan, and execution, featuring multiple courses, finely arranged dinnerware, tables of crudite, lasagna, manicotti, stuffed shells, ravioli, fried eggplant, and then, after that, perfectly executed Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas hams, Easter feasts.  Every Easter was also thrown with a packed itinerary of egg dying, a candy-fueled egg hunt on a green lawn, and full dinner.  Always.  And as always, platters and trays and boards and dishes and crystal bowls and her gold-painted Wedding-gift china and all her most special ware overflowing with more food than could be finished regardless of how many of us arrived.  

But more than that, she knew how to make each one of us “her favorite”, her complete focus, so that each one of us would believe to be the most esteemed of her, the object of her adoration.  She was just an amazingly intelligent and caring woman, a light shining constantly to instruct, to gently correct, to encourage, and to strengthen.   The truth is that she had no favorites but preferred glorying in each one of us for what the merit we had.

Louise was also her own archivist.  Most recently she organized and collected literally thousands of pictures and memories and documents, stacked, bagged, double-bagged, crated, and stuffed in literally every corner, closet, and attic space of the house.  All of those treasures are to be found with unfinished works and partial plans, all intended to bless, to please, to comfort, and to provide for her children and grandchildren.  And in her children and grandchildren she would live to see all of her highest ambitions and loftiest goals and most beautiful dreams made manifest.  Above all, she was a beautiful dreamer.

She is survived by Richard, her loving husband of 56 years, devoted father of her children, dance partner, travel companion, and loyal protector;  dear sons Richard Jr., Robert and his wife Colleen, and Ryan and his wife Katherin; and adored grandchildren Rich, Jack, Connor, Robbie, Sean, Kieran, and Emina, in each of whom she held unique pride and was distinctly pleased.  Louise is bound forever by blood and by love to us.  We family and many others who were fond of her do mourn greatly, and we are thankful to God our Father for our Louise and for her years with us on this earth.  The family will be thankful for your prayers and mercies at this time.

Edelmira Rivera (nee Torres), 90, of the Bronx, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Luis Rivera. Loving mother of Luis and wife Stacey, Edith Lopez and husband Abel, Dolores Tirado and husband Albert and Rosalind Vega and husband Steve. Proud and adored grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Dearest sister of Gladys, Adela, Auria, Tommacita and the late Lydia, Israel, Domingo, Manolin and Irma. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Edelmira was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Catholic and cherished her family and her faith deeply.

Mary Noone (nee Fahy), 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Mary was born in County Clare, Ireland in 1929 to the late Nora and Roger Fahy. She came to America in 1948. She raised her family in Elmhurst, NY (St. Bartholomew’s Parish) and later retired to Huntington, NY (St. Patrick’s Parish).

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas, her beloved son, Michael, and her four sisters and brother.

Mary is survived by three daughters: Marie Cambria and husband Roy, Sheila Conroy and husband Patrick, Alice Rogers and husband Charles. Proud grandmother of Roy Anthony, Steven (Ashley), Matthew, Kevin (Jessica), Thomas (Jamie), Daniel, Meaghan (Kevin), Kristen (Connor) and Caroline (Chris). Mary was also the cherished great-grandmother of 11 great-grandchildren.

A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was always active in her local parish. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

James R. Housley, 89, of Northvale, NJ, passed away on January 8, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.  

Born in North Bergen, February 2, 1935, Jim was one of five: Mary (Stasi) Janet (Capozzi), Barbara (Dreiss) and Edith (Skudera). 

A dedicated and grateful family man, Jim is survived by Barbara (Casablanca), his wife of 65 years, and his sons James (and wife Celeste), John (and wife Heather) and Robert (and wife Jennifer). He was the proud grandfather of Jake (and wife Allison), Olivia, Jack, Grayson, Jordan, Alexis, Ryan, Ryan, Iain, and William. 

Jim proudly served in the National Guard Seventh Regiment New York, New York. He was retired from Browne Business Communications.  

He devoted his life to his family. As a coach, volunteer, and number one fan, he supported his kids and grandkids every pursuit in athletics, academics, and the arts.  He loved his dogs and every dog he ever met and it was a mutual love.
