RoseMarie Ciolfi (nee Vetrano), 88, a longtime resident of Tappan, passed away on March 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving daughters. Born in the Bronx on March 21, 1929 to the late Onofrio and Marta Vetrano. Devoted wife of the late Ronald. Beloved mother of Elena Williams and husband Harry of Nyack, Rosemarie Chadwick and husband Frederick G., Sr. of Tappan and Diane Bowling and husband Frank of Walden. Cherished grandmother of Frederick G., Jr. “JR” (Olivia), Maria (Sean), Luke, JennaRose (Anthony), Jennifer (Donald) and Nicholas. Dearest sister of Martha A. Greco and the late Carmine Vetrano.

Besides being a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, RoseMarie was a tireless volunteer. She was a very active Life Member of the Tappan Fire Association Ladies Auxiliary serving as president and secretary. She was also a member of the following auxiliaries; Rockland County Ladies (Chaplain), Hudson Valley, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hudson Valley Fireman’s Association. RoseMarie belonged to the Piermont Seniors and VFW Aux. as well as the Catholic Daughters (Court St. Anne #866). She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan. She retired from Silhouette Optical in Northvale where she was a sales rep.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 10 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Tappan with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack. Visiting hours are Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Anna E. Schultz, 79, of Norwood, passed away at home on Thursday, March 22, 2018.  Beloved wife of the late George. Nikolaos Koykas

Nikolaos Koykas, 91, of Hillsdale, formerly of Northvale and Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Lillian for 54 years. Devoted father of Elizabeth Columbus, Eugene and Lisa Koykas, and Audrey and Dennis Bowerman. Cherished grandfather of seven grandchildren and great-grandfather of three. Nikolaos worked at the Clinton Inn in Tenafly for many years as a chef and director of operations.

Barbara L. Albanese

Barbara L. Albanese, 90, of Lutz, FL passed away September 30, 2017 surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born in Waukegan, IL September 27, 1927 to the late John Alois Kerber and Elenore Edholm. She is predeceased by her beloved husband , Anthony E. Albanese; and brothers, John A. Kerber, Jr. (Shirley), Kenneth L. Kerber (Providence), and Robert Sandsmark. Mrs. Albanese is survived by her three daughters and best friends, Connie Marraro (Christopher) of Germantown, MD, Lenore O’Connor (Joseph) of Tampa, FL, and Barbara Hopper (Walter) of New Ringgold, PA; her brother-in-law, Leonard Albanese of Closter, NJ; and seven grandchildren, Christopher, Marraro of Fairfax, VA, Liana Schaffner (Glenn) of Duxbury, MA, Tara Daly (Brian) of Land O’ Lakes, FL, Celia Marraro (fiancé, Anni Turkel) of New York , NY, Lindsay Courtney (Kevin) of Lutz, FL, Erica Hopper (fiancé, Bruce Eberhart) of Fairfax, VA, and Elise Sorbo (Kristian) of Portland, OR. Mrs. Albanese was a proud and devoted great-grandmother to Anthony, Avalyn, Madison, Liam, Jamie, and Jaxson. Together with her husband, Barbara created the type of home that her daughters and grandchildren flocked to every summer, in unison. She was a calm and reassuring presence during those happy, noisy days, keeping order in the home and vigil on the porch until the last person was safely out of the pool, off of the tree swing, or in from a late evening stroll. Her grandchildren recall summers under her roof as the most magical of their childhood. Barbara marked every birthday, holiday, and anniversary with a hand-written card that arrived like clockwork. Her family finds comfort knowing that she has been reunited with her husband, the love of her life. Her family will always cherish the memory of her waving and throwing kisses until her loved ones were out of sight. But her beautiful smile, generous spirit, joyful laugh, and abiding presence will forever be missed and forever felt.

A Memorial Mass for Barbara and Anthony will be celebrated Saturday, March 24 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale.

Jeremiah Murphy

 

Jeremiah Anthony Murphy, 85, of Blauvelt, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018. Beloved husband of Rosaleen. Devoted father of Eileen Murphy and Kevin Caffrey, Michael and Jane Murphy, Anne Reeves, Deirdre and Brian McKiernan, Maureen and William Walter and Jerry Murphy. Proud “Peepaw” of Joe, Stephen, John, Alexa, Brian, Kaleigh, Sarah, Andrew, Conor, Tommy, Meaghan, Aidan, Lauren and his cherished Mickey. Dearest brother of Eilish (Billy), Marie (Joe), Cora (Gussy), Mairead (Bob), Pauline (Donnie), Eileen, Patsy, Donal, Noel, and the late David (Sheila), Micheàl (Carmel) and Sheila (Willie).  Brother in law to Anne Farrell (Peter) and the late Mary Dowd (Peter) and Bosco Murphy. Jeremiah was a US Army Veteran. He retired from the NYC Bd of Ed as a Custodian Engineer after 35 years of service and was a member of The I.U.O.E. Local 891. He belonged to the Irish American Cultural Center of Blauvelt, Celtic Golf Club, A.O.H. Div. 5 & 3, and was a parishioner of St. Catharine’s Church in Blauvelt.

John Vincent Skarzenski, 61, of Harrington Park, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Loving father of Aaron Skarzenski of Malvern, PA. Margaret Ascatigno (nee Soldano), 86, of Orangeburg, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Joseph. Giulia S. Rossovich

Giulia S. Rossovich (nee Strazzari), 92, of Tenafly, formerly of Weehawken, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Nadan. Loving mother of Aurelia Czekalski and husband Martin of Northborough, MA, Giorgio Rossovich and wife Marina Micheli of NYC and Nada Barzelatto and husband Chris of Northvale. Giulia was an office manager for Morningside Group of Anesthesiology in NYC for over 22 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Everett Homberg

Everett Homberg, 71, of Northvale, formerly of Old Tappan, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Beloved husband of Diane (nee Larrere). Loving father of Michelle Homberg and partner Joseph Merrill of Northvale and Brett Homberg and wife Lindsey of Montvale. Cherished grandfather of Evan and Madelyn. Dearest brother of Glenn and Suzanne Homberg of Congers, NY and uncle of Matthew and Jaclyn.

Everett was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from UPS after over 30 years of service. He was also a member of the Norwood American Legion. His many talents included being able to fix nearly anything, and the unique ability to simultaneously love and hate the NY Rangers. He enjoyed working on his classic car and collected numerous car show awards. He traveled roads near and far on his Harley with many friends, his passion for adventure will be carried on by loved ones.

Fannie Sadie Staropoli

Fannie Sadie Staropoli (nee Mangano), 92, of Northvale, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Predeceased by her beloved husband Frank in 1996. She was the loving mother of six children. Her four sons, Matthew and his wife Bruni of Nanuet, Mark and his wife Paula formerly of Blauvelt, Frank and his wife Jeanne of Montvale, and Ralph of Colorado; and her two daughters Victoria Corey and her late beloved husband David Wolf of Florida, and Annette and Vincent St. Angelo of Northvale. Adored grandmother of eleven grandchildren: Jeremy and his wife Simone, Noah, James and his fiancée Scarlyn, Michael and his wife Whitney, Megan, Stephen, Amy, Alyssa, Krista, Nicholas and Alexis-Maree and great-grandmother of dear 3-year old Jackson. She is also survived by her son Matthew’s 3 step-children, Jenelle, Charles Anthony and Shawn, along with his 8 step-grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren. Dearest sister of John, and the late Vincent and Frank Mangano. Dearest sister-in-law of the late Pauline, Ruth and Marie Mangano, Connie Schaefer, Gene & Josie Mahanay & Matthew & Anne Staropoli.

 

Fannie grew up during the depression and left high school to help support her family. She started in the garment district in Manhattan at C. Love & Becker as a seamstress sewing piecework and eventually worked her way up to making wedding gowns. During her late teens and twenties she enjoyed having fun with her friends dancing away at the Copacabana; seeing such acts perform, such as Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, and also appreciated the music of many famous operas of her time such as La Traviata and Madame Butterfly. Once married to Frank, she started raising her family in Valley Stream, NY. In 1962 they moved to Northvale. She took in sewing work to help her family and her last employment was at Simon & Schuster/Pearson Publishing in Old Tappan. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church, Northvale.

 

Fannie enjoyed traveling not only with her dear friends from the Senior Center in Northvale, but as well as, Club 60 in Harrington Park. Her most cherished vacations were traveling to visit her children and trips with her family, most especially to Alaska and her mother’s home town of Taormina, Italy, where she was able to meet up unexpectedly with a relative in the short time spent visiting while on a cruise.   Her hobbies included gardening and movie-going. She enjoyed traveling to Massachusetts with her husband and family to watch her sons play soccer in college, cooking for their teams and also cooking and spending time during the holidays with her entire family.
