John A. Guercio

John A. Guercio, 85, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Born and raised in the Bronx, John was a 53 year resident of Norwood, NJ and was predeceased by the love of his life, Helen (nee Castellano). Devoted father of Anthony Guercio, Sr. and his wife Lisa. Proud grandfather of Anthony, Jr. and Gianna. Loving godfather of Theresa DeSisto.

John was a Licensed Registered Pharmacist. He owned Bald Eagle Pharmacy in West Milford and Paramus for many years. He also was the borough tax assessor for Norwood for 45 years and Northvale for 43 years. In his younger years he taught anatomy and physiology at Bergen Community College.  In addition, John also authored a book, “The Power of VI”, which he and his family were so very proud of.

John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. To sum up his life in 3 words: Family God Kindness.

William Santo Lumia

William Santo Lumia, formerly of Northvale, New Jersey passed away at his home in Naples, Florida on July 25, 2021, at the age of 89.

Bill is predeceased by his wife Patricia and is survived by his sons Randall (Susan) of Jupiter, Florida, Craig (Tracey) of Naples, Florida, and Glen (Donna) of Old Tappan, New Jersey.  Grandfather to Ryan (Nicolette), Nicholas (Danny), Kathleen, Brielle, Matthew, Kayleigh and Sierra.  Bill was a devoted husband, son, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, dear friend and co-worker.

On July 19, 1958, Bill married the love of his life, his best friend and adoring wife of 40 years, Patricia. Together, they built a wonderful, active life reveling in summertime fun with family in Indiana and Brimfield, Massachusetts where they spent long weekends and summer vacations when the boys were young, taking pleasure in outdoor adventures. Bill was a proud US Army veteran of the Korean War. He had a fulfilling career as a clinical pharmacologist and national director of clinical research at Ciba Geigy Pharmaceuticals.  He and Pat adored traveling the world together and in later years delighted in splitting their time between New Jersey and Florida. Patricia departed this life way too soon in 1998.  Bill was very proud of his three boys and their families!

Bill was a kind, witty person, quick with a smile who was well-loved as he loved others.  He lived a full life and above all adored spending time with his family and friends both in New Jersey and Florida.  He enjoyed wood carving, gun collecting, pouring molds at his and Pat’s Northvale Ceramic Studio, gardening, fine dining, drinking a good glass of scotch, the beach, a challenging game of solitaire and always looked forward to family gatherings and holidays.

With love and fond memories, we celebrate your life.  You will forever be in our hearts.  Rest easy in grace and love.

Pia Rinaldi

Pia Rinaldi (nee Barrasso), 86, of Orangeburg, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Giuseppe.  Cherished mother of Salvatore Rinaldi and Dorina Grillo and her husband Vincenzo.  Adored grandmother of Filomena and her fiancé Michael, Nico, Kyle and Dylan. Dearest sister of Antonietta, Rosanna, Elena, Rita, Giovanna, Ida, Michele, Gioso and the late Tonino, Gelardo and Grazina.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Blauvelt with entombment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet. Visiting hours are Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from  4-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Geoffrey Stephen Maneri

Geoffrey Stephen Maneri of Englewood, Florida passed away on Friday July 16th, 2021 at the age of 54 surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Geoffrey is survived by his devoted wife Patricia of Englewood, Florida and her daughters Cheryl, Denise and Serena; his loving mother Mary Maneri of New York; his son Eric Maneri of Tennessee; his three grandchildren Mahayla, Brysin, and Liam; his sisters and their families: Maryalice Maneri and her four children, Lisa and Barry VanSise and their son, Alexis and Stephen Maloney and their three children, Nancy and Todd Miller and their two children; his brother Philip Maneri and Anderson Sanches; and his loving great nephews.

Geoffrey was predeceased by his father Philip Maneri.

Geoffrey was born in the Bronx, New York to Mary and Philip Maneri on November 3rd, 1966. A graduate of Tappan Zee High School, Geoffrey spent most of his adult life in Transportation and Logistics. Geoffrey’s exceptional knowledge of engineering and mechanics allowed him to follow his passion of inventing which led him to receive a US Patent on May 16th, 2012.

On June 10th, 2006 Geoffrey married the love of his life, his adoring wife of over 15 years, Patricia. Together, they followed their dreams and moved to Florida and built a wonderful life there.

Geoffrey enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and family. He was a gifted guitarist.  He had a love of sports — especially hockey and the New York Rangers. He enjoyed fishing, biking, bowling, playing pool, automobiles and the beach.

A memorial service will be held at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue Northvale NJ 07647, on Saturday July 31st from 3:00-5:00pm.

Patrick James Kane

Patrick James Kane, formerly of Northvale, NJ passed away at his home in Naples, FL on July 3, 2021 at the age at 83. 

Patrick is predeceased by his beloved son Brian.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bridget Evelyn and his children Geraldine (Greg) of Hewitt, NJ, Tricia (Paul) of Upper Saddle River, NJ, Paul (Mary) of Naples, FL and Shauna (Mike) of Nanuet, NY.  He is the adored popi of Brianne, Aidan, Liam, Ashley, Shannon, Paul, Conor and Nolan. 

Patrick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in law, uncle and dear friend.  He was a gentleman in every sense of the word and was truly loved by everyone who had the pleasure to spend time with him. He enjoyed the simple things in life, and always had a smile for everyone he met.

Patrick will be forever loved and cherished for his selflessness and unconditional love for his family.  Loved beyond words, missed beyond measure.  Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.

A service will be held at the Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050), Friday, July 16th from 4pm to 7pm. A private burial will held.

Stanley J. Molinaro

Stanley J. Molinaro, 98, of Dumont, NJ, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Stan was predeceased by his beloved wife Laura (nee Amorosso) and cherished grandson James George and six brothers and sisters. Devoted father of Victoria Neville and husband Thomas, Rosemarie “Molly” Lyon and husband Randy and Angela George and husband Mason. Proud and loving grandfather of Timothy Neville (Stephanie), Nicholas Riehl (Shermaine) and Christopher Riehl (Astrid). Adored great-grandfather of Timothy, Tyler, Asher, Matteo and Catalina.

Stan was a proud US Army Veteran of WWII.  He retired from PSE&G as a supervising foreman and then worked over 20 years at Pizzi Funeral Home in many capacities. He was a life member of the Dumont Volunteer Fire Department Hose Company 3 and belonged to the Knights of Columbus St. John’s Council #1345.

“Stan the Man”, as he was affectionately known, always put family first and was so proud of his three girls and their families!  A loyal friend, he was a true Mr. Fix-it and was always quick to lend a hand. He had a passion for ’65 Mustang convertibles enjoyed cruising around town. Stan loved a good party and could always be seen on the dance floor doing a mean twist or a polka! At a family or town BBQ he would be cooking up the biggest pot of hot dogs and corn.

Stan was loved by all who met him and he will be missed by many!

Gwendolyn Theresa Phillips

Gwendolyn Theresa Phillips, nee Pellegrin, of Denver, NY formally of Closter, passed away on the 4th of July 2021 at the age of 91. Born in Northvale on January 20, 1930, “Lena’s” parents moved the family to Closter when she was a child.

Gwen is predeceased by her husband and best friend of 56 years, Thomas Joseph Phillips, her beloved grandson Travis Thomas Watkins, her parents Anthony and Julia (DelGrande) Pellegrin, her brothers Peter, Raymond, Dominick and John and her sisters Theresa DeMauro and Anna.

She is survived by her beloved children Beverly Ann Watkins of Closter, Lynda Ann Schaller (Peter) of Demarest and Thomas John Phillips (Cheryl Myers) of Fleischmanns, NY. She is the very special MiMa to Cody Malvern Watkins (Amanda) of Norwood, Schuyler Mackenzie Watkins of Boston, MA, Thomas Joseph Phillips of Fleischmanns, NY, and great granddaughters Piper Rae and Mackenzie Kate Watkins of Norwood. She is also survived by her brother Anthony of Warnerville, NY, many nieces and nephews and her loyal sidekick, her dog, Beau.

Gwen was a past president and proud member of the KH&L Ladies Auxiliary of the Closter Fire Department for many years while her husband Tom was Ex-Chief and a volunteer. When Tom retired from the Closter Police Department in 1985 they moved to their little house along the brook in the Catskill Mountains where Gwen volunteered for the Margaretville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Margaretville Hospital Auxiliary. She most enjoyed eating out, gardening, crafting, volunteering at the hospital thrift shop, visits from her family and the New York Yankees.

Gwen will be forever loved and cherished for her selflessness and unconditional love for her family; she will be sorely missed.

Donations in Gwen’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.

A service will be held at the Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050), Thursday, July 8 from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral Mass to be held at 9am on July 9 at St. Mary’s RC Church in Closter followed by burial in Fleishmanns, NY.

Maria Papadatos

Maria Papadatos (nee Savoglou), 72, of Old Tappan, passed away at home on Saturday, July 3, 2021. Beloved wife of Demetrios. Cherished mother of Elias and his wife Mary of Palm Harbor, FL and Bill and his wife Helen of Old Tappan. Proud grandmother of Kelsey, Zach, Demetri and Nikolas. Dear sister of the late Jean Zisa and her husband Peter, Christopher Savoglou and his wife Michele and Patty DeMaio and her husband Bart. Beloved aunt of Frank, Jennifer, Athena, Christen, Ashley. Maria and Denise. Predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Dina and Nick Panakes.

Maria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend. She was a member of the  Greek Society Association for many years.

Toinette De Furia

Toinette (Toni) De Furia passed from this world  to Heaven on February 26, 2021, while wintering in Stuart, FL. Toni , 74, was a long-time resident of Old Tappan. Born in the Bronx, NY, she moved to Ridgefield Park, NJ while in middle school. After high school, Toni attended Wood Business School in NYC and became an accomplished executive secretary. Attending evening, she earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Montclair State University in 1989 and joined the faculty of Berkeley College, teaching business classes. She continued teaching for an additional thirteen years at Northern Valley High School, Old Tappan, until retiring in 2005.

Toni had a terrific sense of humor and was a great story teller. In retirement, armed with these talents, she pursued her interest in acting and performed in many productions at local community theaters. Toni’s favorite hobby was painting; she was a skillful watercolorist.

In 1990, Toni married her beloved husband, Joe De Furia, who will sorely miss her. Toni is survived by her children; Nicole Redmond, Kris Melbourne-Gemma and their spouses; her step children Anthony De Furia, Joseph De Furia, Danielle Nix and their spouses; her brother Darin Magro, his wife; and 10 wonderful grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 2-6 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Renate Wacht

Renate Wacht (nee Weber), 80, of Old Tappan, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Renate was predeceased by her husband Walter and her son William. Beloved mother of Robert and his partner Jeri Lee and children, Madison and Preston. Dearest sister of Peter and Helen Weber. 

Renate came to the United States from Germany at age 16 and worked as a model and hairdresser.  She was a devoted wife and mother and later worked at the Buckingham in Norwood and Sunrise in Old Tappan for many years.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 5-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).
