John P. Ascolese

John P. Ascolese, 80, of Northvale, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019. Born January 22, 1939 in Jersey City, he was raised in Hoboken until 8 months old when his family moved to Norwood. Graduate of Tenafly High School, Class of 1957.

Devoted husband of 59 years to Laura (nee Cosseta). Loving father of Laura Scilingo and husband Dr. Ciro Scilingo and Claire Schmidt and husband Gary. Proud grandfather of Nick and fiancé Kristen, Paul, Christina and fiancé Justin and Jillian. Dear brother of Millie Logan, Joseph Ascolese and the late Anne Tiner. He is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

John worked at Jackson Metal Company in Hoboken for 28 years before opening his own business, John Ascolese Scrap Metal from 1985 to 2013. He loved his work, was funny, loving and generous to his family; he enjoyed good food, Friday poker nights and trips to AC with friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 10 AM at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY. Visiting hours are Monday 4-8 PM at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale (201-767-3050).

Joseph DeStefano, 70, of Tappan, NY, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. He was born in the Bronx to the late Joseph and Mary DeStefano. Beloved husband of Kathleen (nee Cusack). Proud father of Daniel, Joseph and his fiancée Tina, and Robert. Loving brother of Peter DeStefano and wife Dorothy and the late Fausta and Louis Pagnotta, Mildred and Alfonso Prisco, Michael, Marie and Dorothy. Dear brother-in-law of Patricia and George Dietrich, Nancy Dilts and the late James, Eileen and Frank Egan, James Cusack and Helen Bracciodieta. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Joe was a fish salesman for over 50 years in New Rochelle and White Plains.

Pauline Piazza

Pauline Piazza (nee Russo), 96, of Northvale for 53 years, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Fonti. Loving mother Robert and his late wife Monica, Tim and wife Mary, Paulette Scatassa and husband Joseph, Ronald, Christopher and wife Cheryl, Gerard and Daniel. Cherished grandmother of 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Peter Russo and Nick Russo.

Pauline is also survived by her beloved dog, Baci.

Pauline was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church, a member of the Northvale Golden Agers and the Senior Center. She belonged to a Bonsai Club and enjoyed doll making, gardening and arts and crafts.

Kathleen Carlos (nee Costello), 92, of Emerson, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Edward T. Carlos. Loving mother of Joan Graves and husband Carl of Old Tappan, Kate Kaufman and husband Arthur of Park Ridge and Maureen Williams and husband Walter of Hartsdale. Adored grandmother of Michael Graves (Jaclyn), Taryn Williams O’Sullivan (Matthew), Brian Kaufman (Shelby), Erin Graves, Joseph Kaufman(Brianne), Patrick Williams, Kelly Williams Vitale (John) and the late Matthew Williams. Proud great-grandmother of Tyson Kaufman, Kayden Kaufman, Charles Kaufman and Teagan O’Sullivan. Dearest sister of Sr. Lillian, Patrick (Eileen) and the late Joseph, James and Sr. Bridget Costello.

Kathleen was born in Knock, County Mayo, Ireland, where her love of faith and family was formed.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and also loved the over 20 years she spent working for Sears as a Credit Consultant in Hackensack and North Bergen, NJ.    Kathleen was a parishioner of St. John’s in Bergenfield and belonged to the Rosary Society and the Golden Age Club. She will be dearly missed by all.

Mercedes F. Large`-Minch

Mercedes F. Large’-Minch, 60, of Emerson, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. Beloved wife of Steven E. Minch. Cherished aunt of Crystal Austin, Nicole Large’, John Minch and Erik Minch. Proud great-aunt of Jayden, RJ, Declan, Autumn, Alexandria and Willi. Dear sister-in-law of Greg, David and Joel. Also too many to list of all her family throughout Germany, aunts, uncles and many cousins who will miss her dearly.

Mercedes was predeceased by her brother Willi, sister Carmen and nephew Craig.

She is also survived by what she considered her children, her cats, Buddy (her moose)and Louie (her Baby Girl).

Mercedes was a fun-loving and loyal person. She loved entertaining, gardening and time spent with family and friends.

Patricia Ann Bubnikowicz

Patricia Ann Bubnikowicz, 84, passed away September 24, 2019.  Born July 7th 1935 to Eugene and Rose Wynne (Maroni) in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Edward, her sons Edward and James, daughter in-law Catharina, granddaughters Sarah and Rachel, and her niece and nephew Jennifer and Declan Doyle.

Patricia was a warm and loving mother who kept a meticulous home.  She was an excellent cook and read cookbooks like others read novels.  Her preparation for holiday dinners would start weeks ahead and all enjoyed her gourmet results.

Later in life she became an avid reader and a staunch supporter of her local Northvale library (which closed but was re-opened with neighborhood enthusiasm and support).  She was never far from a book or her electronic reader.

Vacations were spent with family at lakes and oceans where she enjoyed swimming and playing with her granddaughters

She was at home in the city and the country.

Services will be held at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale from 4pm-7pm on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Joseph A. Carney

 

Joseph A. Carney, 60, passed away suddenly at his home in Warwick, NY on Saturday.  Born December 18, 1958 to Curtis and Annette Carney.  His is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jeanette (nee Biedebach), his daughter Jessica Carney, his step-daughters Darlene (Mike) Brown, Kimberly (James) Knight, his brothers and sisters Roger Carney, Maureen Italiano, Mary (Billy)Moncalieri,  Richard (deceased) Laurie Carney, Vincent (Sue) Carney, Robert (Karla) Carney, Janet (Pat) Meeuwissen, and Bernadette Carney, and his favorite little people who called him Pop Pop, Meg, Kate, Anna, Tyler, Tristan and Caylee, as well as his many nieces and nephews who he loved so much. 

Joe always had a smile on his face and was the funniest guy in the room.  He was never at a loss for words and he could talk to anyone.  He loved his family, worked hard, was a huge NY Giants fan and enjoyed being outdoors, especially going fishing and kayaking.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. 

Joe attended NVOT High School, graduated from R.E.T.S. Technical School and worked as a dedicated employee of Panasonic for 31 years. 

Services will be held at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale from 4pm-8pm on Thursday and a funeral ceremony will be held at Pizzi Funeral Home at 11am on Friday.

Grace Canara

Grace Canara (nee McDonough), 89, of Brick NJ, formerly of Northvale, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 21, 2019. She was born at home in Hackensack NJ on September 20, 1930.

Beloved wife of Gerard for 63 years. After many years of caring for her husband he predeceased her in 2017. Grace is also predeceased by her parents John and Catherine (nee Schilling) McDonough and her eight brothers and sisters.  She was the youngest of their children.

Devoted mother to Michael and his wife Liz of The Villages, FL and Peggy Dellabough and her husband Derek of Warwick, NY. Cherished grandmother to Stephanie Mak (Xiao-Wen), Ashley, Austin, Chelsea Canara and Zachary, Hannah, and Blake Dellabough.

Grace’s greatest pleasures in life were found in her family and friends. She most enjoyed antiquing, reading and the personal time spent with friends.

The unconditional love Grace shared will always be remembered in our hearts. She will be dearly missed by all.

Joseph Pecoraro

Joseph Pecoraro, 83, of Norwood, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Josephine (nee Spoto). Loving father of Donnamarie Carlson and husband Christopher, Maryann Van Orden and husband Raymond, Irene McCarthy and husband Sean and Tammi-Jo Pecoraro. Proud grandfather of Crystal, Jennifer, Ashley, Thomas, Donald, Stephanie, Tiffany, Patrick, Samantha, Nicholas, Joey, Jessica, Zoe, Elidio and John. Cherished great-grandfather of Howard, Ryan and soon, Alexander. Dearest brother of Thomas and the late Rosemarie Vitzian.

Joe was a veteran of the US National Guard. He was a truck driver for Paradise Fuel for over 30 years. He belonged to the Closter Elks and the Cresskill American Legion.

Arianna Joy Fojtlin

Arianna Joy Fojtlin, age 13, of Orangeburg, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. Cherished daughter of Jennifer Fojtlin and Nicholas Dilthey. Proud big sister of Nicole. Adored granddaughter of Joy and Richard Fojtlin and Beth and Al Giordano. Great-granddaughter of Louise and the late Joseph Fojtlin, Gary and Deborah Reid and Nicole and the late Wallace Dilthey. Ari was a freshman at Tappan Zee High School. She loved dance and trained at Nyemchek Dance Studio. She was also a teacher’s aide for the 1st grade at St. Catharine’s School.
