Barbara Haynoski

Barbara Haynoski    February 21, 1938- March 24, 2021

Barbara Haynoski (nee Ziegler) a former New York city native and forty- five plus year active resident of Norwood, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 24th. Barbara was a loving, supportive, devoted wife and best friend to the late Benjamin T. Haynoski and the adoring mother-in-law of the late Andrew I. Rubinstein. Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Karen, and cherished, devoted grandsons, Benjamin and Aaron.  Barbara was so proud of her grandsons and took great joy and pride that her first grandson was named after her late husband, Benjamin.  Barbara is also survived by her brother, Robert Ziegler (Bobby) and his adult children, her niece and two nephews and their families.  When Barbara lived in her Norwood home she loved “grandson sitting” for baby Benjamin. Later, Barbara moved not too far from Norwood, to live with her daughter and grandsons. She relished in being able to share in both Benjamin and Aaron’s everyday lives from their learning to walk, starting school, martial arts practice, piano playing, bike riding and their many other activities and interests.

Barbara married Benjamin and they immediately bought their beautiful, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom dream home and moved to what was then called by city folks the “sticks” in Norwood, New Jersey in 1964.  She and her husband then completed their college degrees together from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  She enjoyed part-time teaching, shorthand and typing early on in her working life.  Later, she spent most of her working life in a law firm as a legal secretary on Wall Street and legal administrator and paralegal in patent and trademark law. She worked for CPC International for many years and made dear, life-long friends there. She then worked at SONY Corporation of America in the Intellectual Property Department where she again made strong bonds and life-long friends and eventually took early retirement from Sony to travel more with her husband.  Barbara was civic-minded and besides acting CEO of her household, was a Norwood Girl Scout leader for five years and an active charter member and executive board member for nine years of the Women’s Club of Norwood. She was appointed as councilwoman of Norwood to complete the term of a member who was no longer able to serve and then was elected and served as a councilwoman for another seven years and served as a liaison to the Norwood Board of Health.

Barbara also enjoyed hobbies like ceramics, knitting and gardening and was interested in the great civilizations of Latin America, the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas. She vacationed in many countries to learn about their cultures before it was even fashionable to travel to places like Peru and the Yucatan. Later in life she enjoyed the beaches of Sanibel Island, cruising with her husband and family to Panama, Alaska and Hawaii. She was a wonderful, devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister who always looked to the positive and avoided the negative.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her, but we will take and try to abide by the many lessons she taught us to live our lives as civic minded, strong, loyal, and optimistic people.
