Ralph C. Merola

Ralph C. Merola, 88, of Tappan, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. Cherished father of Charles A. Merola and wife Marirose of Manhasset and Denise Karamian and husband Ashot of Forest Hills. Adored grandfather of Danny, Lauren, Sara and Rebecca.  He will be dearly missed by his loving partner Elizabeth Brown and her children, Stephanie Lauler of Palisades and John Harrington of Tappan.  Dear brother of Michael of Floral Park and Alexander and his wife Carmelina of California. Also survived by the mother of his children, Theresa Merola of Howard Beach.

Mr. Merola worked in the garment industry in NYC for many years, retiring from House of Ronnie, Inc. as VP of Sales and Production.

Frances Maryanne Barulich

Frances Maryanne Barulich

Was born November 4, 1916 in Manhattan, NY the daughter of the late Mate and Anna Petrovich; she went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 9, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY at the age of 99. On June 23, 1946, Frances married Marko George Barulich in New York City. They celebrated 43 wonderful years of life and love together prior to his passing in 1989. Her brothers, Marty and John Petrovich also preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving sons and daughter-in-laws: Greg and Chris Barulich of Pine City, NY; Mark and Linda Barulich of Mansfield, TX; along with 6  grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Frances was a member of and very involved with the Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood, NJ for 55 years. For several years she was a waitress for many local restaurants in New Jersey. Family and friends are invited to call at the Pizzi Funeral Home 120 Paris Ave. Northvale, NJ on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at the Immaculate Conception Church 211 Summit Street Norwood, NJ at 11:30 AM. The Reverend Leo J. Butler will celebrate Frances’s Mass. Daniel F. Salvia

Daniel F. Salvia, age 93, of Sparkill, NY, died Thursday, Sept 1, at home. Beloved husband of the late Therese (nee Duffy), and resident of Sparkill for 48 years, Daniel was born in Brooklyn, lived for a short time in Berwick, PA and later in the Bronx. He was a US Army Veteran of WW2 serving in the Pacific as a light artillery instructor. He retired from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority after a career of over 35 years starting as a car maintainer and rising to Chief of Operations. Daniel was an active member of St. Anthony’s Parish in Northvale and a member of the Perry Post American Legion in Sparkill. He is predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Robert. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephew and all his many friends.

John M. Flanagan, Jr.

John M. Flanagan, 73, of Old Tappan, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Beloved husband of Elaine (nee Ratiniere). Devoted father of Michele G. Flanagan of Hong Kong, China and Keith G. Flanagan and his wife Carolyn of LaGrange, IL. Adored grandfather of Carter and Callie. Dear brother of Helen Tomasko and her husband Edward of Bethel, CT.

John held several senior positions in the telecommunications industry, serving as Chief Financial Officer of several companies over his career. He had a calming demeanor, the ability to make people laugh and found humor even in the most challenging situations. More importantly, he will be remembered as a family man, who loved and was devoted to his wife of 51 years, his children and his two granddaughters. To his friends, John was always known as kind, compassionate, generous and a true gentleman. He had a deep Catholic faith and bravely battled cancer until the end.

Edward Joseph Luttati

Edward Joseph Luttati, 88, of Dumont, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016.  Beloved husband of the late Rosemarie. Loving father of Carlene Luttati of Taos, NM, Debra Gonzales and her husband Ray of Arroyo Hondo, NM and Lisa Ferra and her husband Gerald of Dumont. Adored grandfather of Miguel, Lowell, Jessica, Courtney, Daniel and Nicholas and great-grandfather of Erica, Maliha, Devin, Cora and Jaxson.  Also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

Mr. Luttati was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War.  A devoted family man, he worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC in the security department for over 35 years.  He was an avid bowler and also enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles.  He will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday 9:30 AM at St. Therese RC Church, 200 Jefferson Avenue, Cresskill.

Michael A. Szegda

Michael A. Szegda, 70, of Old Tappan, formerly of Tenafly, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Joan. Loving father of Christian and his wife Carolina of Hackensack, Daniel of Tenafly, and twins Justin and Michele of Old Tappan. Adored grandfather of Eva. Dear brother of Barbara Maxwell and her husband Raymond and uncle of Jessica Stokes.

Michael was a US NAVY Veteran.  He graduated from Brown University and NYU Law School and had a private law practice for many years prior to working for Hampshire Hotels in NYC for the past 10 years.

Joanne E. Schryver, 69, of Harrington Park, passed away at home on Saturday, July 23, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Beloved wife of the late Jack. Frederick C. Eichler, Jr.

Frederick Charles Eichler, Jr., 86, of Northvale, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016. Born July 7, 1930 to the late Fred and Margaret Eichler. He is survived by his son, Frederick Eichler, III and grandsons, Frederick IV and Christopher. Dear brother of Anne M. Teuber and the late Margaret Eichler. Also survived by many loving cousins and friends.

Fred was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and belonged to the American Legion Perry Post in Sparkill, NY.  He retired from Rahway State Prison where he was a corrections officer for 27 years.  He then pursued a contracting business for many years until retiring at the age of 84.

Besides his love of family, Fred was an avid reader and gardener. He was a loving man who will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

Frank Margini

Frank Margini, 79, of Old Tappan, formerly of Northvale, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016. A devoted family man, Frank was the beloved husband of Eva and loving father of Steven and his wife Laura of Wallkill, NY, Douglas of Old Tappan and Frank R. of Old Tappan. Adored grandfather of Samantha.

A proud American, Frank was a Cpl in the USMC during Korea and later joined the US Army Reserves and retired as Sgt. He was an officer in the NYPD for 20 years before retiring and becoming superintendent of buildings and grounds at Northvale Public Schools.
